5. Sindhudurg Fort

Built by the great Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji, Sindhudurg Fort safeguarded maritime borders from the neighboring rulers. In Marathi, Sindhudurg means, ‘A fort built on the ocean floor.’ The fort took three years to build with about a hundred Portuguese architects and thousands of workers. It houses shrines of Lord Hanuman, Goddess Bhavani, Goddess Jarimari, and Shivaji Maharaj. Within the fort, a handprint and a footprint of King Shivaji lay engraved on a slab. One has to take a ferry ride to reach the fort.

6. Tsunami Island

Tsunami Island was formed out of the devastating tsunami that took place in 2004 in Devbag, located in the Malvan region. It can be visited only during low tide. One can also spot dolphins on a boat ride near Tsunami Island. The mountainous part of the island resembles a crocodile. The water sports offered include Banana boat rides, jet skiing, Kayaking, boating, and Parasailing. Half-submerged shacks sell food and beverages to satiate your hunger.
