History of the Gateway of India
Nicknamed as ‘the Taj Mahal Of India’, this majestic monument was constructed in the year of 1924. The construction happened by the instructions of the renowned architect George Wittet. It was established to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Mumbai. This beautifully crafted piece of architecture holds the combination of Arabic, Western and Indian styles. Since 1924 to date, the place is well maintained and is a major tourist attraction all across the world. This majestic Gateway served as the entry and exit to India through waterways before the country was finally liberated from the British Raj.
