There is no scheduled passenger ferry or ship service from India to Thailand in 2026. If you want to travel by sea, you have two real choices. The first is an occasional multi-day repositioning cruise that sails from Mumbai or Chennai when an international line moves a ship between seasons. The second, and by far the more common, is to fly into Bangkok or Phuket and take a cruise once you arrive.

From Mumbai, the only by-sea option is a repositioning cruise, and those are premium multi-week holidays that start around Rs 3 lakh per person rather than a cheap ferry ticket. From Chennai the picture is the same, plus the well-known Kattupalli to Laem Chabang shipping lane, which carries cargo, not passengers. From Kolkata there is no direct sailing at all; travellers fly, or connect through a Mumbai or Chennai embarkation. For most people from any of these cities the maths is simple. A return flight to Bangkok from about Rs 12,000, then a river or island cruise on the ground, costs a fraction of a two-week repositioning sailing and reaches Thailand in hours instead of a fortnight.

Who sails these routes

Cordelia Cruises is India's only home-grown cruise line, sailing Mumbai, Goa, Lakshadweep and Sri Lanka, but it does not run a scheduled India to Thailand route. The long India-to-Southeast-Asia sailings that do happen are repositioning voyages run by international lines such as Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean, and they appear only in certain months. Best Thailand Dinner and Day Cruises

This is where a Thailand cruise actually happens for most travellers, on the water once you are there. The evening sailings run along the Chao Phraya in Bangkok, past the lit-up Wat Arun and the Grand Palace, with a buffet and live music on board. The daytime ones head out to the islands.

Chao Phraya dinner cruises in Bangkok

The best-known boats are the Grand Pearl, the Chao Phraya Princess, the White Orchid, Wan Fah and the Manohra, a restored teak rice barge. Most run a two to two-and-a-half hour dinner sailing with hotel pickup, and fares sit around Rs 1,800 to 2,500 per person depending on the boat and the menu. Best Time for a Thailand Cruise

For sea cruises, November to April is the window. The weather is cool and dry, the water is calm, and the island day boats run on schedule. If you are chasing water sports as well, April into May stays good before the rains. June to October is monsoon season, when open-water sailings get rougher and some island trips are cancelled at short notice.

River cruises are a year-round pleasure, and they are at their best around the festivals. A Chao Phraya dinner sailing during Loi Krathong in November, when the river fills with floating candles, or over New Year and Valentine's, is the one couples remember. Book those dates early.

Top Cruise Destinations in Thailand

Phuket

Phuket is the launch pad for the best island cruising in the country. From here, boats run to Phi Phi, Maya Bay and the Similan Islands, and you can spend a morning snorkelling off Coral Island and be back at Patong for dinner. Between beach time, the Big Buddha, Wat Chalong and the old Sino-Portuguese lanes of Phuket Town are worth a half-day each.

Krabi

Just across the water from Phuket, Krabi trades nightlife for limestone cliffs and quieter sand. Railay Beach, reachable only by boat, the Emerald Pool and the Tiger Cave Temple are the anchors, and the island-hopping day cruises to Koh Poda and the Hong islands are calmer and more scenic than the Phuket runs.

Bangkok

Bangkok is where the river cruises are. A dinner sailing on the Chao Phraya past Wat Arun is the classic couple evening, and by day the canal and floating-market boat tours show a side of the city the Skytrain never reaches. Pattaya

Pattaya is the easy cruise base near Bangkok.
