History of Raghunath Temple

The Raghunath Temple in Kullu is dedicated to Lord Rama and was built by Raja Jagat Singh in the year 1660. This holy temple is situated on a hillock that gives a magnificent view of the valley. Legend has it that a Brahmin in the Valley came upon a lot of pearls, from an undisclosed source. Raja Jagat Singh sent his troops to get those pearls by torturing the Brahmin and his family members. The Brahmin chose to set his house on fire and killed himself and the entire family. The king was distressed to know that he committed such a sin. To get over his guilt, he paid a visit to Shri Kishan Dass Ji Panihari who advised him to build a temple of Lord Rama.
