About Aberdeen Harbour in Hong Kong
Aberdeen is town situated on the southwest side of the Hong Kong island. The total population of the area is approximately 80,000 and it is part of the Southern district. History of Aberdeen Harbour Since its emergence, Aberdeen has been a port of fishing and home to the clans of Tanka and Hoklo who came from the provinces of Guangdong and Fujian. The initial Chinese settlement came to be known as Hong Kong. The British troops came in to the country from this Harbour in 1841. The region came to be known as Aberdeen after the famous British Secretary of State for War, and the fourth earl of Aberdeen (Scotland) - George Hamilton Gordon. As the British sought control over this place, it was no longer reserved for fishing, they expanded it to create industry. The construction of a colossal paper mill started in the early years of the 20th Century, in the eastern part of Aberdeen, but due to the enhancement of Aberdeen Reservoir, its water could no longer be utilized by the mill. As a result, the site of the mill was later transformed into Aberdeen Industry school.
