About Hazara Rama Temple in Hampi

One of the most unique and popular temples in Hampi, the Hazara Rama Temple is a gorgeous Temple located at the center of Royal Enclosure.

It is dedicated to the Hindu deity,  Lord Rama. Among the many unique things, the name ‘Hazara Ramaswamy Temple’ stands out as it literally translates to a thousand Rama referring to the numerous bas-reliefs depicting the entire Ramayana carved onto the walls of this Temple.

The Hazara Rama temple was built by Devaraya II, the king of Vijayanagara in the early 15th century. Originally a simple structure consisting of a sanctum, Ardha Mantapa and a pillared hall, the Hazara Rama temple was once used as a private temple for the king and royal family of Vijayanagara. The temple was renovated later to add an open porch with elegant pillars. The pillared hall contains a stone platform at the center on which black pillars have been erected. The interior of the temple has heavily ornamented and carved columns. An empty podium stands inside the sanctuary with three holes on it signifying that the temple once held idols of Rama, Laxmana and Sita. With a sprawling lawn on the Northern side, the main entrance for the Hazara Rama temple is located on the east and small doorways in the south lead to the durbar Area. The temple represents an excellent example of the Vijayanagara architecture.

We have recently booked and traveled to mysuru, coorg and wayanad through All india holidays. The hotel at mysuru and homestay at coorg were very good but the hotel at Wayanad was average. Had a great time at Mangalore. As usual Travel Triangle at its best. This is my 6th trip with Travel Triangle. Beginning till the End Travel Triangle was supportive., The trip was organised by M&M Cabs and Mr. Mahesh had co-ordinated really well with us for the trip.
