About Matanga Hill Trek
Matanga Hill, Hampi is located at the eastern end of the Hampi Bazaar, offering you an awestruck view of the ruined city and the panoramic view beneath you.Being the top-most point in Hampi, Matanga Hill is amongst the most popular places to visit. The tourists get a mesmerizing view of the city of Hampi. There is a small temple on the top of Matanga Hill known to be the Veerabhadra Temple. On the way down there is a small cave marked where it is believed that Sugriva, ruler of Kishkinda, used to hide.The track between Hampi Bazaar and Achyutaraya Temple is a popular track passing at the base of the hill. There are many other trials that lead to the bottom of the foothill. The most prominent of it leads to the east which terminates at the Kadalekalu Ganesha temple. Another trail is to the east end of Hampi Bazaar Street.
This hill attracts tourists who are interested in trekking. There are various paths for trekking in Hampi that lead to the top of the hilltop, where the Veerabhadra Temple dwells. The hill trek takes around 30 minutes. The rooftop of the Temple is the best place to behold the astounding sunrise and sunset where “first come first served” is the rule to squat on the western edge of the rooftop. The Achyutaraya Temple, Tungabhadra River, Virupaksha Temple, Hampi Bazaar and many other places are visible from the top of the hill.
