Thangal Para sits on Thangal hill, roughly 5 km from town. Walk in early and the light filters through the trunks in shafts; it is quiet, cool and a favourite for solo travellers, friends and short treks. Go at first light for the mist. 6. Vagamon Tea Gardens

The tea slopes that ring Vagamon are a real attraction in their own right, not just a backdrop. Terraced rows run down the hillsides toward Elappara and Pattumala, and a slow plantation walk on a clear October morning is one of the calmest things you can do here. Several viewpoints let you photograph the gardens with the valley behind them.

7. Vagamon Glass Bridge

The newest headline attraction is the Vagamon glass bridge, a cantilever glass skywalk that juts out over the valley and lets you look straight down through the floor. It is billed as one of India's longest cantilever glass bridges and has quickly become a must-do for younger visitors. Marmala Waterfalls, roughly 20 km from Vagamon near Teekoy, drops in a tall single fall fed by the streams of the Meenachil catchment.
