Kurisumala Ashram In Vagamon (2020)

Enveloped by the Sahya Mountains, Kurisumala Ashram in Kerala is a Trappist Monastery established in 1958 by the bishop of Tiruvalla, Zacharias Mar Athanasios. ‘Kurisu’ in Malayalam means cross while ‘mala’ means mountains and the word ‘ashram’ translates into monastery. As a result, the name portrays the community of spiritual seekers who reside in the hills of Vagamon and live a strict monastic life. Nestled in the midst of lush greenery in a scenic location, Kurisumala Ashram in Kerala is situated on the Erattupetta and Elappara road, and it is one of the most renowned tourist destinations in the world. Nestled at the foot of Kurisumala, which lies around 4000 feet above the sea level, this ashram is a community of spiritual souls who have dedicated their lives to the Almighty.

Being a popular attraction flocked by people from all around the world, it is also considered as one of Kerala’s best pilgrim centres, where devotees from the Christian community come to seek blessings and peace while observing meditation.

History of Kurisumala Ashram

The founder of this ashram, Francis Acharya (earlier John Mahieu), was Belgian by birth but he accepted the invitation of Zacharias Mar Athanasios in response to the divine call. With him, Fr. Bede Griffiths, the co-founder of this ashram, also joined. Altogether, they established the Kurisumala Ashram on 3rd November 1957. They changed the shape of this infertile space into a colorful paradise of gardens, green meadows, and vegetable beds. With passing time, stone buildings were erected along with guest houses and living quarters. Not only this, but they also raised a herd of cows to provide a livelihood for the community and support poor families who had temporary shelters nearby. The efforts of these pioneers for the next ten tears turned out to be fruitful and the meadows of Vagamon were flowing with not only milk but honey also. Besides this, they kept enhancing their spiritual knowledge by indulging in meditation, reading, and prayer every day.

Amruthkumar's 4 days trip to Vagamon

I am facing a problem with person who is dealing with me(alan John) about this travel. Because he tell the package of two persons is 24,000 but at the time of payment the page shows 24999. I initial paid 8600(600 for convience fee for two persons). The amount he told that conversation happened in the call unfortunately I am not recorded that call for reference. Because of that I pay extra amount of 1000 rupees. This is not the correct way because the person told in the call will be different and in the quotation it is different. I am not checked the quotation properly because of trust on that person. I see only the iternary of my journey in the quotation.
