About Taragarh Fort in Ajmer

Taragarh Fort in Ajmer was built in 1354 A.D. It was built under the reign of King Ajaypal Chauhan in the year 1354. The location of the fort is quite remarkable as you discover that it is located on a steep hillside. Taragarh Ajmer has three main gateways that allow entrance to its inside. These gateways are known as Lakshmi Pol, Phuta Darwaza, and Gagudi ki Phatak. Although this fort was a spectacular work of architecture, these gates are now in ruins. Taragarh Fort was also quite famous in those days for its spectacular tunnels that crisscross through the hillside. It is a famous tourist spot and remains a stunning example of the impressive Rajasthani architecture. The Taragarh Fort was used as a crucial military center during the rule of Mughals in India. But after a few years, when the town of Ajmer was annexed by the British, the fort was converted and used as a sanatorium.

History of Taragarh

The Taragarh Fort was built in 1354 and is located on the top of the hill. It is also one of the oldest forts in India. One of the famous gates of Taragarh Fort, Miran Saheb ki Dargha, is present inside the fort. This gate was named after Miran Saheb who sacrificed his life in pursuit of safeguarding and protecting Taragarh against enemies’ attacks. If you wish to get a panoramic view of the city, climb to the Taragarh Fort. 

Architecture of Taragarh Fort 

There are 3 gates to enter the majestic Taragarh Fort in Ajmer. These gates are named as Phuta Darwaza, Lakshmi Pol, and Gagudi Ki Phatak. One can see beautiful carvings of elephants on the graves. There is a tunnel inside the fort which is also a highlight, these tunnels were used during the wars, in case of any attack, it was used for exit. 

Significance of Taragarh Fort

The Taragarh Fort in Ajmer was used as a military center during the Mughal rule. The fort is known for its majestic size and stunning architecture. The place is a paradise for history buffs and archaeologists. Photography is allowed inside the fort, so one can capture a rich history in their cameras now.

Taragarh Fort is renowned as the premier hill fort in Asia. It has a very imposing structure in the form of a solid rectangular shape and 4.5-meter walls of the strong rock. The fort is famous owing to its intricate architecture and the role it played in history.

    We recently chose services for first time from back to holidays for our trip to Rajasthan, and while there were some positive aspects, unfortunately, our overall experience was not as smooth as we had hoped. Issues with Driver and Vehicle The driver and vehicle provided were from Uttar Pradesh,
    not Rajasthan. As a result, the driver had no local knowledge, which caused significant delays and confusion. For instance, upon our arrival at Udaipur airport, it took 30-40 minutes for the driver to locate us, despite being at the airport gate. We were with six children and had to direct him over the phone repeatedly. Throughout the trip, the lack of local knowledge meant we had to rely on Google Maps to reach destinations. This consumed extra time and added unnecessary stress. Inaccuracies in Itinerary The itinerary mentioned an elephant ride near the Birla Temple, which was not there it was near amber fort and due to this details we missed that. This was a major disappointment, especially for the children who were looking forward to it. Sightseeing in Udaipur was poorly planned. For example: Jagdish Temple, listed for Day 2, should have been included on Day 1 as it is adjacent to Jagmandir Palace. Due to this misalignment, we had to waste time traveling across the city on Day 2, which resulted in skipping Fateh Sagar Lake and the Aquarium. Hotel Experiences Devi Palace, Udaipur: This hotel was excellent. The staff was extremely polite and helpful, providing detailed guidance for local sightseeing. The breakfast and meals were also outstanding. The Lighthouse, Jaipur: Unfortunately, this hotel did not meet expectations. The staff was rude, unresponsive to feedback, and the breakfast quality was subpar. We decided against having any meals here. What ever ratings we have given to the hotels are only to devi palace we consider poor rating to the light house. We enjoyed, our stay at Devi Palace, the overall experience was spoiled by the lack of local expertise, misinformation in the itinerary, and disappointing accommodations in Jaipur. We hope you consider this feedback to improve your services for future travelers.
