About St. Anthony Church in Colombo

Unlike other churches that exude a religious vibe, St. Anthony Church in Colombo is very austere. With a surprisingly somber atmosphere and a sense of history, it absolutely makes sense to St. Anthony Church. Especially seeing as it has been declared as a national shrine. The church is located at Kotahena in Kochchikode, Colombo, and it is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua.

One of Colombo’s most interesting and revered shrines is St. Anthony Church. From the outside, the church looks typically like a Portuguese Catholic church, but the ambience and atmosphere inside is distinctly sub-continental. There are long, trailing queues of devotees lining up for offerings and prayers to a dozen ornate statues inside the Church. In fact, the statue of Saint Anthony is said to be blessed with miraculous powers. This is one of the main reasons why St. Anthony Church draws the attention of so many in Colombo. It is said that the truest of devotees of Saint Anthony always get what they wish for in this remarkable shrine.

St. Anthony Church brings together people from different religions all across the world with the power of peace, love, and prayer. Among the locals, there is a custom that has prevailed for a long time now. The mothers bring their girls to this Church when they hit their puberty. It is said that they come here to pray for protection against evil spirits who may lust after the girls’ nascent sexual awakening. St. Anthony Church has always stood for miracles.

We had 7 night stay at 6 different hotels. We have asked and paid for 4 star hotel catagory. Thre hotels at Sigiriya, Seeduwa and Nuwara Eliya were not good. The hotel at Nuwara Eliya was of a home stay catagory. Agent should have booked better hotels.
