About Loi Krathong Festival In Chiang Mai
An annual festival celebrated in Thailand by the locals, Loi Krathong festival of lights marks the end of the monsoon season in the country. In the month of November when there is a full moon night, you will see the rivers of Thailand lit up brightly with floating candles. The people of Thailand observe this festival with much zeal and vigour as they believe that it signifies purgation of the mind and leads to enlightenment.
Out of all the three places in Thailand where Loi Krathong is celebrated, Chiang Mai is the only place where the festival is celebrated along with Yi Peng ( another festival of lights in Northern Thailand). The major attraction of the festival includes the brightly-lit lanterns that are made up of rice paper and then stretched over a frame of bamboo with a candle attached to it.
Chiang Mai is the meeting point of Loi Krathong and Yi Peng. But in Chiang Mai, the festival is celebrated with flying lanterns instead of floating ones. If you wish to be a part of the Loi Krathong festival in 2019, you may as well book a tour during November. Chiang Mai is suitable for all seasons-travel.
