Hey Travel Trail, Dear Yugal I hope this review finds you in high spirits! I wanted to take a moment to express my utmost gratitude for organizing the most incredible trip to Thailand. From start to finish, every aspect of the journey was meticulously planned, and I couldn't have asked for a bett

The check-in process was seamless. The accommodation itself was beyond my expectations.I really love the swimming pool and the buffet breakfast. Beyond the hotel, the itinerary you crafted for us was diverse and captivating. From exploring the bustling streets of Bangkok to immersing myself in the natural wonders of Phuket, every destination left an indelible mark on my heart. I will undoubtedly recommend your travel agency to my friends, family, and colleagues who are seeking an extraordinary travel experience. Shivani's 5 days trip to Chiang Mai

Yugal was our travel agent. He was always available from the day we booked the trip till we completed our trip. He was always a call away and was helpful to resolve all the queries. His commitment was commendable. We took 4 night 5 days package. The hotels we stayed were fortunately good. Cab serv
ices were not as much cooperative as expected. I would suggest to include most imp tourist spots of bangkok/pattaya in basic package itself. Like we had a bangkok city tour in our package but reclining budha/watarun temple was not part of it. Better to have it included in basic packages which would improve customer satisfaction. But overall it was a good and hustle free experience.

      FAQs Packages

When is Loi Krathong 2026 in Chiang Mai?

Loi Krathong falls on the full moon of the twelfth Thai lunar month, which in 2026 is 24 November. Chiang Mai's Yi Peng sky-lantern events run across 24 to 25 November 2026. A few sources list the full moon as 25 November, so confirm the exact night against the Tourism Authority of Thailand before you book flights, since the date shifts every year.

Is Yi Peng the same as Loi Krathong?

No, though Chiang Mai celebrates them together. Loi Krathong is the nationwide festival of floating a candle-lit krathong down the river, and it happens all over Thailand. Yi Peng is the older Lanna festival of the north, when thousands of khom loi sky lanterns are released into the sky. They share the same full moon, so in Chiang Mai you see both, floating candles on the water and lanterns rising overhead.

Where can I see the mass sky-lantern release in Chiang Mai?

The famous synchronised release of thousands of lanterns at once happens at ticketed venues in the Mae Jo and San Sai area, north of the city, not in the Old City itself. Operators such as CAD Khomloy run these events with a compulsory transfer included. Inside the city you will still see plenty of lanterns going up, but not the single rising wave, which is the ticketed event.

Is Loi Krathong free in Chiang Mai?

The city celebration is free. Floating a krathong on the Ping River, watching the Tha Phae Gate parade and joining the candlelit temple ceremonies at Wat Phan Tao all cost nothing beyond a few baht for your krathong. You only pay if you want a ticket to a mass sky-lantern release outside the city, which is a separate, staged event.

How much do Yi Peng mass-release tickets cost in rupees?

Budget community releases start around 2,500 THB, roughly Rs 7,150. Mid-tier events like Yee Peng Lanna International run about 4,800 THB, roughly Rs 13,700. The official CAD Khomloy release runs from about 4,900 THB (around Rs 14,000) for standard up to 15,900 THB (around Rs 45,500) for the top tier, with transfer and often dinner included. Figures use a rate near 2.86 to the baht; reconfirm at booking.

Is it legal to release a sky lantern on my own in Chiang Mai?

Only in the right place at the right time. Chiang Mai restricts where and when khom loi can be launched because burning lanterns are a hazard near the airport, and flights are cancelled over the festival. Release lanterns only at licensed venues and officially permitted zones and nights. Setting one off randomly in the Old City or near the airport can be illegal and dangerous, so check the current municipal rules.

Can I float a krathong, and where do I get one?

Yes, this is the heart of the festival and it is open to everyone. Vendors sell krathong all along the Ping River and Nawarat Bridge on the night for about 20 to 100 THB. Choose a biodegradable one made of banana leaf rather than styrofoam, light the candle and incense, make a wish and set it gently on the water.

Which night is better, 24 or 25 November?

Both nights carry events in 2026, so you do not have to pick just one. The full moon of 24 November is the core Loi Krathong night for the river floating and the Grand Krathong parade. The mass sky-lantern releases run across the 24th and 25th. If you can, keep both evenings free: one for the free river ritual and one for a ticketed release.

When should I book tickets and flights for Loi Krathong?

Early. The ticketed mass releases sell out weeks ahead, so aim to book by the first week of October. Late-November flights and Old City hotels also tighten and rise in price as the festival nears, so lock those six to ten weeks out. Leaving it late usually means either no mass-release seat or a much higher fare.

Loi or Loy Krathong, which spelling should I search?

They are the same festival; the name is a transliteration from Thai, so both spellings are correct. You will see loy krathong more often online and loi krathong in some official listings. Search either, or add Chiang Mai or Yi Peng to your search to find the northern sky-lantern celebration specifically rather than the nationwide floating festival.
