How to reach Pattaya from Chennai

Here's how to reach Pattaya from Chennai by air, road, and rail.

By Air: Keeping in mind that Chennai to Pattaya flight distance of 2245 km is the least among all the other cities, availing a flight is the best possible means of transportation. However, there are no Chennai to Pattaya direct flight usually from Chennai International Airport, Meenambakkam to the nearest airport in Pattaya, U-Tapao. They usually have one stopover, mostly at Bangkok, sometimes at Kuala Lumpur or Phuket City. Sometimes they have two stops. The whole journey takes 11-13 hours depending on the airline carrier. The best and fastest flights are offered by Air India and Bangkok Airlines.

By Road: Travelling the 100-hour road distance from Chennai to Pattaya is very much time to consume as well as effortful. The road distance between the two cities is more than 5000 km – one has to cross the entire east coast of India, take the India-Myanmar-Thailand road and then avail buses from Bangkok to reach Pattaya. Since buses are frequent and convenient from Bangkok airport or Ekamai terminal, many people avail that road route to Pattaya. But it is best to take a flight at least till Bangkok.

By Rail: There is no railway connection between Chennai and Pattaya because of obvious geographical and political barriers. But if one wants to reach Pattaya by rail anyway, there is a daily train from Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong station to Pattaya station. The 3-hour journey is enjoyable and costs less than 40 TBH – a real bargain.
