My wife and I wanted to visit a good beach location near the country for our honeymoon. Since we just had a week left for our vacation, we decided to choose Andaman as our honeymoon destination, as it’s hardly five hours away from Delhi(by flight). Day 1: Hola Andaman!

We took a flight from Delhi and reached Port Blair on time. Upon reaching, we were welcomed by the hotel representative who took us to our hotel, Hotel Airport. On reaching the hotel, we were given a good welcome and taken to our rooms.

A decent property near the hotel, though not the best one out there. The rooms are clean and spacious with basic amenities available. The staff is cordial and food is decent too

After relaxing in the hotel room for sometime, we headed out and went to the Cellular Jail complex, also known as Kala Pani. Since it was late in the evening, we couldn’t roam inside the complex, so we decided to cover it in the early morning hours the next day.

Tip:
In order to be fully versed with the history of Cellular Jail, one can attend the light and sound show that happens every evening between 7-8 pm depending on the season.

After roaming around for sometime, we came back to our hotel for dinner and tired from the the day’s travel, we retired for the night.

Day 2 was reserved for sightseeing in Port Blair. We had a sumptuous breakfast at our hotel, post which we left for the Andaman Museum tour. It was a very informative tour and gave an insight into the history of lifestyle and culture of the native of Andaman. Post that, we took a cellular jail tour and we got to see the inner compounds where the political prisoners were kept.

By the time, we finished our sightseeing, the sun had already set. So we went to Corbyn Cove beach, one of the nearby beaches and spent some time relaxing there. Later, we came back to our hotel for dinner and called it a night.

Day 3: The beauty of the Havelock Islands

This was one of the best days of our entire trip. We had an early morning breakfast and left immediately for Havelock islands. These islands are one of the largest in the Andaman archipelago and is about 40 km from Port Blair. Undoubtedly, these are a beautiful group of islands, where the Government has undertaken development to promote Eco-tourism.

We did scuba diving followed by other water adventure activities, which lasted a couple of hours. Post that, we visited the elephant beach, a very famous beach in Havelock. Trust me when I say this: elephant beach is one of the cleanest and the best beaches I have ever seen. We stayed there for sometime before going to our hotel, Havelock Island Beach Resort.

At night, there was a musical performance followed by DJ night. We had a lot of fun, swinging to the amazing beats of the DJ. Post dancing, we had dinner and went to our rooms to enjoy a good sleep.

The location of the hotel is perfect; it is right next to the beach. The ambience is quite good with the rooms being very clean and spacious. Right from the reception staff to the room cleaning staff, everyone is very warm and helping.

Day 4: Beach therapy: Going around Asia’s best beach

We got up early and had a sumptuous breakfast at the hotel before leaving for Radhanagar beach, the most popular beach in Havelock. Radhanagar beach is a must visit; it has been crowned as Asia’s best beach and the 7th best beach in the world by TIME magazine. Due to its popularity, there have been developments around the beach and one can choose from a number of restaurants and shacks here, something which is missing in the other beaches of Andaman.

We stayed there for some hours before going back to our hotel. At night, a special candle light dinner was arranged for us. It was a truly magical experience, sitting by the beachside in full moon night, with nothing but the sound of crashing waves and the company of my beautiful wife. I can never forget this night.

Day 5: Neill Island and beyond

Day 5 was reserved for Neil Island, named after British general James Neill who had played a major role in suppressing the revolt of 1857. There, a must visit spot is the Hawrah natural bridge, a natural bridge creating a magnificent backdrop for all your pictures. We enjoyed there for sometime before going to the Laxmanpur beach for view of the sunset.

As compared to other hotels in the area, this is quite an expensive stay option. The food is not that great and the services are average. Highly recommend one to look for other accommodation options in the area.

Day 6: Water adventure and pretty sunsets

Post breakfast, we left for Bharatpur beach for snorkeling. Snorkeling was very different from our scuba diving experience. While in scuba diving you go deep into the water, in snorkeling, you use a snorkel to breathe near the surface of water. Nonetheless, both were amazing experiences for us.

We had to leave for Port Blair by lunchtime. After reaching there we visited the Chidiya tapu beach, famous for the sunset view at Chidiya Tapu. One also gets to see a variety of birds there such as drongos, hanging parrot, scarlet minivet, emerald dove, long-tailed and red-breasted parakeets, white-bellied sea eagles and grey-fronted and imperial green pigeons .
Later we came back to our hotel for dinner and sleep.

Day 7: Goodbye Andaman! You will be missed so much

This was our last day here. We got up early as we still had to cover ross island. We took the jetty and roamed around the gorgeous island. We did not have the time to cover the island by foot as we had a flight to catch at 12 pm.
We came back from Ross island, picked our luggage from the hotel, thanked the staff and left for the airport to catch a flight back home. Andaman was etched in our memories forever!

Highlight of the trip:

The best part was the candle light dinner at the Havelock beach resort. That was a beautiful night and everything was arranged perfectly by the hotel staff.
One’s trip to Andaman is incomplete without a visit to the Elephant beach and the Radhanagar beach; these are the best beaches out there!

Low points of the trip:

The Tango Beach resort at Neill Island is not a good stay experience. The staff is also not helpful. One should look for other accommodation options there
We had to remind our hotel staff for the cake and bedroom decoration: it wasn’t planned properly by them.
Andaman has limited food options for vegetarians. One will have to search good restaurants beforehand.
Baratang island is another marvellous place to visit. Unfortunately, we could not visit it due to shortage of time

Tip for future travelers:

Andaman archipelago has a lot of beaches. One should do proper research and prepare a list of the best places to visit before planning the trip
