Jaisalmer was once a medieval trading center and a princely state which is located in the Thar desert. It is well known as the Golden City and it is famous for its yellow sandstone architecture. The Maharaja temple, the city fort and the Jain temples are the famous attractions of Jaisalmer. You may visit Jaisalmer during wintertime as it is the best time of the year. Explore the city and enjoy the fun features of the destination during your family trip to Jaisalmer.

Best Time to Visit Jaisalmer

Winter- November to February: The most pleasant time to visit Jaisalmer is considered to be wintertime because the temperature ranges from 5 to 24 degrees. You may visit the various monuments as the weather is awesome at this time of the year. As Jaisalmer is hot during most time of the year, wintertime is an ideal time to visit. Though it could be a little cold, it is better than any other seasons to roam around the city and explore the wonderful attractions of Jaisalmer. The desert festival falls at this time of the year and you can experience all the exciting things Jaisalmer can offer at this time.

Monsoon - September to October: In Jaisalmer, monsoon happens for a short period of time. During this season, Jaisalmer receives rainfall for a short time and the temperature ranges from 19 to 23 degrees. Due to rainfall, Jaisalmer receives high humidity and it might not be preferable for people to visit at this time. After the rain, Jaisalmer gets to have a scenic and picturesque view as the city clears off. If you have a love for monsoon, you may visit Jaisalmer at this time of the year and enjoy the beautiful destination. There are many places to explore in Jaisalmer and you can do them at this time when its not raining.

Summer - March to August: Jaisalmer has a hot season during this time of the year and the temperature ranges till 43 degrees. Due to its proximity to the Thar Desert, summer is not a favourable time to visit Jaisalmer. If you like to stay indoors during the day and go out at night, you can visit Jaisalmer at this time as the weather cools off at night. You may roam around the city and explore its wonderful places during the evening. It might not be a good idea to go for activities like camel back ride during the daytime of this season due to the scorching heat. You may plan your visit accordingly in order to avoid uncomfortability and visit Jaisalmer during the season of your choice.

The nearest international airport from Jaisalmer is New Delhi airport. Jodhpur airport remains busy as it receives a lot of tourists for the neighbouring destinations. The time taken to travel between Jaisalmer and Jodhpur airport could be 5 to 6 hours. Therefore, the cab fare could be expensive.

Jaisalmer is connected by bus from many places of Rajasthan such as Jodhpur, Jaipur, Bikaner, Barmer, Mount Abu, etc. There is no direct bus from New Delhi but you may take a bus till Jaipur and change the bus to reach Jaisalmer. The number of people visiting Jaisalmer has increased day by day and there might be a little traffic problem while getting there or leaving the place. • Trip to Jaisalmer

9 days trip to Rajasthan -> udaipur, jodhpur, jaisalmer, bikaner, pushkar, Ajmer and Jaipur. We were told that the driver will be familiar with all places to visit but unfortunately he had no idea about any city other than udaipur. Additionally, he did not even have a map. He was dependent on the guest to help him with directions on mobile. Because of this we wanted a lot of time figuring things out which could have otherwise been utilized for site seeing. Neither the agent nor the driver informed us about timings of important places that close as early as 4.30pm. Evenings wasted! Overall experience is that I ended up planning activities of the day instead of relaxing n enjoying the trip.
