About Cabo de Rama in Goa

One of the most underrated tourist spots in Goa, the Cabo de Rama Fort in the Canacona region of South Goa, is a must visit for those looking for an off-beat location to explore.

The fort is spread over 18000 square meters. The cabo de rama fort history says that it was named after Lord Rama, who along with his wife Sita, came to spend some time of their 14 years of exile at the fort. It used to be known as Rama Killa back then, after which there were minor clashes among other rulers to gain access to the fort. The fort was constructed by Soonda rulers, during the 16th century, and was later taken over by the Portuguese in the year 1763.

It is located between two popular beaches of Goa, namedly Agonda Beach and Cavelossim Beach. Right below the fort, there is a small beach as well, measuring nearly 500 meters, known as the Cabo de Rama beach. Although the fort is currently in ruins, it is a great place to visit to soak in the heritage and architectural styles, which is a mix of Indian and Portuguese. After the Britishers invaded, Cabo de Rama in Goa was turned over to them in the year 1792, after which they too abandoned it in the year 1813. In the year 1955, it was turned into a prison, but later was left in ruins after being abandoned for the last time.

There are moats, ramparts, a watchtower, cannons, springs, water tank and a small chapel, which is still operational, and an annual feast is held here every year.

Puja's 6 days trip to Goa

We would like to thank Jack from Wanderglobe for making the trip so memorable. It was our reunion where we friends met after 12 yrs but now along with husbands and for me along with my son as well. The resorts were very good both according to ambience and hygiene. Drivers were mostly on time and stopped at good places for food and shopping.Baby food was available in both the resorts in the buffet breakfast as well as in the main menu. The cruise was enjoyable. Thank you once again for planning the trip so well and guiding us.

Soumya's 5 days trip to Goa

Travel agent and cab driver were awesome in support and coordinate. As of hotel, i just have 3 problems due to which i give it 3: 1. The pool of the resort is closed. So couldn’t enjoy the pool when on stay. (Agent has informed it earlier, but still it’s a deduction in our amenities) 2. Within the hotel we don’t have any options for entertainment/indoor sports. So when it rains heavily, we didn’t have more choice other than our own company. 3. We faced minor issues in the room. But the staff were quick to resolve the same.

Ssklmw's 5 days trip to Goa

I'm Senthil Kumar, a 53-year-old who had always dreamed of visiting Goa. Despite numerous attempts, I never had the chance until last week when I got a one-week holiday. Although my family couldn't join me, I decided to embark on a solo trip. Initially, they were apprehensive about me traveling alone, but my daughter reached out to Goa Originals, and you made my dream a reality. From airport pickup to drop, your team took excellent care of me. Your timely calls and messages were incredibly reassuring. The constant communication between us gave me the confidence to enjoy my trip without any worries. Kudos to you and your team for the outstanding work! Thank you for making my trip so memorable. Best regards, Senthil Kumar"

FAQ's of Goa

It is surely a deserted place, with the possibility of not seeing another person for quite a while, especially on a day with less tourists. Maybe the deserted air has given rise to the haunted theory, since there are no such evidence supporting the same.

There is plenty to see near the Cabo de Rama fort, such as Agonda Beach, Cola Beach, Varca Beach and Patnem Beach.
