Dudhsagar Waterfalls, Goa
Nestled in the lush wilderness of the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, Dudhsagar Waterfall spills down from the Western Ghats in South Goa. With a height of about 310 meters and a width of 30m, this four-tiered cascade ranks among the tallest waterfalls in India. Meaning a ‘Sea of Milk’, Dudhsagar Waterfall in Goa upholds its apt name, especially during peak monsoon months.
Some Interesting Legends About Dudhsagar Waterfalls
Goans maintain a belief that there was a princess who used to come for a refreshing bath by the lakeside. She used to bathe in this lake every day with her maidens and one day while consuming milk from her golden jug, she was laughing and giggling. Upon hearing this, a prince who was passing nearby stopped to get a glimpse of the person who was laughing. Upon seeing this, the maidens poured the milk from the jug in front of the princess so as to make a curtain in front of her, thus preventing the prince from watching her. This curtain of milk is called Dudhsagar Falls.
