Why is it called Scandal Point?

Legend has it that the Maharaja of Patiala eloped with the daughter of the then British Viceroy, and this is the place where they decided to meet up. Hence, since then this point has come to be known as Scandal point. 

Story of Scandal Point

The story revolving around Scandal Point includes two eminent personalities of those times which were Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, the Maharaja of Patiala, and British viceroy’s daughter. During British rule, Lord Kitchener had to move to Shimla with his family. As soon as they moved to Shimla, Lord Kitchener and Maharaja Bhupinder Singh became good friends. The two visited each other frequently and spent time together. Slowly, Kitchener’s daughter met Bhupinder Singh and started to get well familiarized with each other. Soon, both fell in love and wanted to get married but this wasn’t accepted by Lord Kitchener. Finally, the couples met at the scandal point and ran away in 1892, this is how the point got the name Scandal point in Shimla.
