About Fishing in Gulmarg

Many people love fishing and fishing in a hill station is something else.

The serenity, view and weather that hill stations have to offer, make the whole fishing activity even more interesting. Fishing is more of a summer activity in Gulmarg.

Since the summer sees extra crowd populating the ski resorts, it is recommended to indulge in fishing for the people who would want to avoid crowd and seek peace. Heading to the Confluence is a good bet for fishing. The confluence is where the streams from Ferozepur Nallah and River Bahan merge.

Another good place to go fishing would be to Ferozepur Nallah (that flows through Chinamarg and Nurpur Pass). Just 5kms away from Gulmarg, you can trout fish out here. Camping is also allowed near the nallah where you can enjoy with your friends and family.

One can also head to Ningle Nallah. This place offers all the privacy a fisher usually needs since it is completely isolated from the crowd of tourists. Trout fishing is famous in ningle nallah. You can also arrange for a camp fire here to party after your catch! This area is also an ideal place for picnics.

Kashmir`s sport trout are not native to Kashmir. This fish was brought-in by the British. The Himalayan water is natural and rich in nutrients. Thus, it supports very many aquatic lives. The fish species od rainbow as well as brown trout flourished since their inception in the water of Gulmar and were completely acclimatized here. Fishing is a permitted activity in streams of Gulmarg. However, glacial lakes remain untouched as usual.

Fly fishing is also an important activity of Gulmarg. Tourists enjoy fly fishing in various water bodies of Gulmarg. Fishing in Gulmarg is common among foreign tourists.
