The temple town came into existence when Sage Agasthya witnessed the wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati from Kalasa because of the boon granted to him. A Shiva Linga emerged out of Sage’s pot (Kalasha). He built a temple at that place which came to be known as Kalaseshwara Temple and installed the Shiva Linga there. An idol of Sarvanga Sundari Devi also resides in the temple.

6. Gangamoola Viewpoint

Located within the stretch of Kudremukh National Park, Gangamoola Viewpoint is also known as Varaha Parvatha. The main attraction is a small cave temple housing the idol of Goddess Bhagavathi and Varaha. One of the well-known hills of the Western Ghats, Gangamoola, is the origin point of three rivers, Tunga, Bhadra, and Netravathi.

7. Sri Annapoorneshwari Temple

Timings: 6:30 am-9:30 pm

Situated on the banks of River Bhadra, Sri Annapoorneshwari Temple is devoted to Goddess Annapoorna, the goddess of food (grain). Established by Maharishi Agasthya, the idol of Goddess Annapoorna is made of gold. As per beliefs, the devotees who visit this temple are never devoid of food in their lives. The temple has mesmerizing architecture and offers free food and shelter to all the pilgrims. Navratri, Akshaya Tritiya, and Rathotsava are the festivals celebrated at the temple premises with great zeal.
