1. Vellore Fort

Vellore is well known for its magnificent 16th-century fort. The fort which was built by the Vijayanagara Kings was passed on to Mughals and Marathas before the British captured it. At a point of time, it was the seat of power of Aravidu dynasty. The fort has survived the Carnatic wars and various other battles like the Battle of Thoppur. Today most of the ancient architecture is well preserved. There is a water moat all around the fort with bridges that take you inside.

2. Sripuram Golden Temple

This golden temple of Vellore has more gold than even the Golden Temple of Amritsar. The entire temple is covered in 1500 kg of gold. But this is not the only reason why people visit it. This temple houses local goddess Sri Lakshmi Narayani. The temple is on a 100 acres land at the foot of the hills called Thirumalaikodi or Malaikodi.

3. Jalakandeswarar Temple

This is a temple you have to visit when in Vellore. It is located inside the Vellore Fort. Jalakandeswarar Temple is in water. Jala means water and Kandeswarar mean Lord Shiva. This temple perfectly represents the ornate architecture from the Vijayanagara era . According to a legend, there was a huge anthill surrounded by water. The Jalakandeswarar Temple is built on this anthill.

4. Balamurugan temple

This is a 14th-century temple with the architecture from the Chola era. The temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan. There is a beautiful granite chariot in the temple. The insides of the temple are also made of granite. The architecture is extremely beautiful and well preserved. Walking inside the temple is like taking a walk through history.

4. Tirupati Temple

The most famous temple from Southern India - The Tirupati temple is just 3 hours from Vellore. With 7 hills of Tirumala surrounding the Temple, the place is very picturesque. Thousands of tourists visit the temple to get blessings of Lord Sri Venkateswara. The waterfalls and caves near the temple are considered to be sacred.

1. Vainu Bappu Observatory

Vainu Bappu Observatory is the first modernized observatory installed outside Europe. You may visit here one evening and have a go at stargazing. It is named after the director Mr. M.K. Vainu Bappu, who was in charge during the establishment. The observatory is located on the Javadu Hills near Vellore.

2. Yelagiri Hills

At a distance of 2 hours from Vellore, you can go to Yelagiri for some trekking. There are many trekking trails and waterfalls at this hill station. You can also visit the Murugan Temple on top of the hills. Yelagiri is the nearest hill station to Vellore.

3. Punganoor Lake

Punganoor is an artificial lake near the Yelagiri Hills. This is a clean lake where boating and other water sports facilities are available. The nature around the place is beautiful just like Dal Lake of Kashmir. You can visit here to experience the calm of nature. Many birds have taken shelter near the water body. This is a perfect place for bird watching.

4. Amirthi Zoological Park

Amirthi Zoological Park is a zoo near the city of Vellore. The area is spread across 25 acres. It is a beautiful park with waterfalls and natural beauty well preserved. The zoo is small but the surrounding area and its natural beauty make up for it. Almost all Vellore tour packages will include Amirthi Zoological Park. 5. Kaigal Falls

Kaigal falls or Dumukurallu Waterfalls is a waterfall which has water cascading all around the year. The water falls from a rock at a height of 40 feet.
