How much does a Bali trekking package cost from India?

A 4-night, 5-day Bali trekking package starts at Rs 51,999 per person on twin sharing with flights from India, plus about Rs 2,100 to Rs 3,150 for a shared Mount Batur sunrise trek. Land only, the same trip starts at Rs 27,999. Longer packages with Mount Agung or a second trek in the north are priced on quote, because guide fees on Agung fall as your group grows (about Rs 6,038 each for two, Rs 4,200 each for four or more).

Is trekking in Bali safe?

A guided Bali trek is reasonably safe for a healthy traveller who picks the right trek, but no volcano climb is free of risk. Batur is a moderate climb in the dark on loose volcanic gravel, and the descent is where most slips happen. Agung is strenuous and closes during big temple ceremonies or when the alert level rises. Our agents check both the week before your date, every trek is guided, and we strongly advise insurance that covers trekking.

Is a guide mandatory on Mount Batur and Mount Agung?

Yes, in practice on both. On Mount Batur the local guide association enforces the rule at the trailheads, so you cannot start without one. On Mount Agung a licensed guide is required by a 2025 Bali forestry circular, and a foreign climber who went up alone was deported in February 2025. Every trek in our packages includes a licensed local guide, so you do not need to find one yourself.

Should I choose Mount Batur or Mount Agung?

Choose Mount Batur unless you are a fit, experienced hill walker. Batur takes about two hours up from a 2 AM hotel pickup and suits first-timers and teenagers. Agung's summit is about 3,031 m. Even the shorter Pasar Agung route takes three to four hours up to the crater rim (about 2,866 m), and the last stretch is steep bare rock. Agung also needs a rest day after it, so it belongs in a 6-night package, not a 4-night one.

What time is pickup for the Mount Batur sunrise trek?

Pickup is about 2 AM from Ubud and 1:15 to 1:30 AM from Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Sanur and Nusa Dua. You start walking around 4 AM and reach the top in time for sunrise. Your guide serves a summit breakfast, usually steam-cooked eggs, a banana sandwich and fruit, and you are back at the hotel by late morning or early afternoon.

What is included in a Bali trekking package?

The hotel on twin sharing with breakfast, private transfers, a car for sightseeing, and on trek days a licensed guide, hotel pickup, the trek ticket, a torch, water and the summit breakfast. Packages marked "with flights" also include return flights from India. Visa on arrival (IDR 500,000), the Bali tourist levy (IDR 150,000), most lunches and dinners, hot-spring entry, tips and insurance are extra.

Is there a no-climb option for Mount Batur?

Yes. A 4WD jeep drives you to the black lava field below Batur's cone for sunrise, with no climbing at all. You miss the summit view and the steam-cooked breakfast, but you also skip the steep, slippery descent. It costs about Rp 350,000 to 900,000 per person (Rs 1,840 to Rs 4,725) and suits young children, seniors and anyone with bad knees.

How fit do I need to be, and can children join?

For Batur and Sekumpul, you should be able to walk uphill for an hour with short rests and manage a few hundred steps. Most operators take children from 12 years old on the Batur walking trek, and the jeep works for younger ones. Agung is for strong adults with hill experience. Campuhan Ridge and Jatiluwih are gentle enough for almost anyone who walks regularly.

Can a person with a disability join a Bali trek?

It depends on that person's fitness and the kind of disability, so tell your agent before you book. The Batur jeep sunrise needs no walking on the mountain. The Jatiluwih rice terraces have flat sections close to the road, and Campuhan Ridge is paved, though it has a steep stepped start near Pura Gunung Lebah. Batur, Agung and Sekumpul involve loose ground or hundreds of steps and are not wheelchair accessible.

What should I carry on a Bali trek?

Carry a water bottle, comfortable trekking shoes with a good grip, a hand cloth, a healthy drink, light snacks and basic medical aid. For a sunrise trek add a head torch, a fleece and a windproof jacket, because the Batur summit is 10 to 15 °C before dawn. Bring a light rain shell between November and March, and some cash in rupiah for tips and the summit stalls. Eat a light dinner the night before, because a heavy meal before a 4 AM start can bring on nausea.

Can I trek in the rainy season (November to March)?

Yes, but plan around the weather. Batur runs most mornings in the wet season, though paths are muddy and cloud can hide the sunrise. Agung is often closed or unsafe in heavy rain. Our agents watch the forecast and move the trek to a clearer morning, or switch you to the jeep, when needed. Ask your agent to confirm in writing how a weather change is handled before you pay.

Can I customise nights, hotels or add Nusa Penida to a trek package?

Most travellers pick Mount Batur, and for good reason. It is the one sunrise summit a first-timer can manage, the path is busy enough to feel safe in the dark, and you are back at the hotel by early afternoon. Mount Agung is a different trip: a sacred mountain, a cold rocky top, and a climb that leaves strong walkers sore for two days. Pick it only if you have done a full-day hill trek before. Lake Tamblingan is the quiet choice, with giant ficus trees, birdsong and old forest temples instead of crowds.

How to Choose the Right Bali Trekking Package

Four questions settle it.

• Who is coming? Couples on a honeymoon usually want one sunrise trek and the rest slow, so add Batur to one of our Bali honeymoon packages. Families with children under 12 should take the Batur jeep and the Campuhan walk, or start from our Bali family tour packages. Friends' groups get the most from the Volcano and Waterfall Trek.

• How fit are you? If you walk an hour without stopping and your knees are fine on stairs, Batur and Sekumpul are well within reach. Agung needs real hill fitness and a head for steep rock in the dark.

• How many nights? Four nights fits one trek comfortably. Five nights adds a second trek in the north (Sekumpul or Tamblingan) with a night in Munduk. Six nights or more is what Agung needs, because you want a rest day after it.

• When are you going? From April to October every trek is on. From November to March, keep to Batur on a clear-forecast morning, the jeep, and the easy rice-terrace walks.

Day 3 is the trek day and Day 4 is the longest drive. If you would rather rest after the climb, ask the agent to swap Besakih for Tanah Lot at sunset, which is a shorter day. Staying in Ubud instead of Nusa Dua moves the pickup to about 2 AM and cuts the drive to the trailhead to roughly 1.5 hours.

What Is the Best Time for Trekking in Bali?

April to October, Bali's dry season, is the best time for trekking. Trails are firm, summit mornings are usually clear, and every trek runs. April, May and June are the sweet spot, with green rice terraces and smaller crowds than July and August. Christmas and New Year are busy weeks too, but they fall in the wet season, when paths turn slippery and cloud often hides the sunrise. Trek Safety: Licensed Guides, Volcano Alerts and Closures

Think about the difficulty level of each trek before you book. No climb on an active volcano is risk-free, and the risks that hurt people in Bali are ordinary ones: slipping on loose gravel on the way down, twisted ankles in the dark, and getting cold at the top. A good guide and the right trek for your fitness remove most of them.

Every trek in our packages is guided. On Mount Batur the local guide association enforces the guide rule at the trailheads. On Mount Agung a licensed guide is mandatory under a 2025 Bali forestry circular, and a foreign climber who went up alone was deported in February 2025.

Batur and Agung are both active volcanoes, and Indonesia's volcano service (PVMBG, which publishes alert levels on MAGMA Indonesia) can raise the alert level at short notice. Mount Agung also closes for major temple ceremonies, sometimes for weeks. Our agents check the alert level and any closure in the week before your trek and again the evening before. Tell your agent about any heart, lung or knee condition before you book. And buy travel insurance that names trekking: several Indian policies exclude it or limit it by altitude, and Agung's summit is about 3,031 m.

The trip was organised well in advance, with specific instructions ensuring the comfort level of travellers (all travellers were senior citizens). Given below are major observations for further improvement: 1. 06/09/26: Arrival in Bali: There was an arrival time difference between the two groups. I

t could have been better if separate pickup was arranged so that excessive waiting time could have been avoided by the first group members. The reason was the distance between the airport and the place of stay. The travel advisor could have arranged the itinerary in such a way that the first day was spent at a nearby place. Anyway, not a major issue. 2. Stay at Ubud: The property was good; the only issue was that it was not properly maintained. In two villas, the room fridge was not working. The next day, a mechanic was called, and he suggested replacement. Toiletries were not filled in before arrival; even the tea pouches were made available on request. Warm water was not available in some villas. The major issue was property selection; all members were entitled to equal amenities, whereas in fact, the villa configuration was different for two facilities. The tour organiser was aware of the same, and we were kept in the dark. 3. 07/09: The day was spent well. The driver arrived on time. No major issues. 4. 08/09: The sightseeing itinerary planning was OK. But faced issues at the new property. The rooms allotted were not accessible by lift, whereas members were having knee issues and were not OK with stairs. After a lot of persuasion, the rooms were shifted. It was specifically mentioned that since the group comprises senior citizens, either book the rooms on the ground floor or the lift should be accessible on the upper floor. If, after arrival, we have to manage that, why at all are we engaging a travel organiser is a moot question. 5. 09/09: The itinerary planning was poor. Returned to the hotel by around 3.30 pm; had to miss one scheduled activity as there was a gap of 3 hrs in the next item on the schedule, whereas the plan mentioned that it was till 8 pm. The planning was at fault. 6. While finalising the itinerary, the organiser missed one major activity of bali swing. It is an iconic activity associated with Bali. Don't know why it was not included. Secondly, in the itinerary, there is a reference to a volcano visit which was not covered. Further, at Nusa Penida: In the itinerary, it was mentioned to keep IRD 25K per person for the broken bridge, but we were taken to two places where, at each place, the entry fee of 25K was demanded, and we were short of cash. The driver had no idea about the speedboat, dropped us at a location too far away, and we had to walk more than one kilometre, whereas the nearest parking was available within walking distance (say, 50-100 meters) 7. 11/09: Early morning (4 AM) departure to the airport was not well coordinated. 8. Last but not least: In a foreign country, the driver is the sole communicator between travellers and the local community. We were told the driver cum guide would be English-speaking. We can understand the limitation, but communication skills are a critical factor and needs serious improvement. Being professional is different, but travellers need a companion during the trip, which was a major miss. Summary: We enjoyed the trip, but the experience could have been better. I would say that we deserve compensation for the deficiency of services we faced during the trip to restore our confidence in Travel Triangle to assign our future trips (this was 3rd trip we organised through Travel Triangle)
