About Pura Ulun Danu Batur In Bali
To the temple of Kintamani, Pura Ulun Danu Batur Temple is one of the important Balinese temples of Hindu faith. After the Besakih Temple, Ulun Danu Batur Temple is the second most significant temple that rests itself at the rim of Mount Batur. The temple was built in the year 1926 and is dedicated in the honor of the goddess of rivers and lake - Dewi Danu. Water is an extreme Balinese worship element and Ulun Danu Batur Temple translates 'head of the lake' making the complex scared for worship.
Highlights of Pura Ulan Danu Batur Temple
There are nine main temples inside the compound and Pura Penataran Agung Batur is the main temple with five courtyards. Pura Taman Sari, Pura Padang Sila, Pura Sampian Wangi, Pura Gunarali, Penataran Pura Jati, Pura Tuluk Biyu, Pura Tirta Bungkah, and Pura Tirta Mas Mampeh are the other temples inside the premises. There are 11-tiered Meru and 3 other small Meru which is placed in honor of Batara Dalen Waturenggong (former king), Mount Abang, and Mount Batur inside the holy area of Pura Penataran Agung Batur.
The complex of Pura Ulun Danu Batur Bali is elevated 900 meters above the sea level offering the glorious view of lava-covered Mount Batur as the background. There are different shrines located inside the temple complex. Each shrine is built to honor specific gods governing every aspect of Balinese agrarian lifestyle ranging from masonry, arts, agriculture or carpentry. These shrines form the very basic foundation of the Balinese cultures, therefore making a must visit place in Bali for tourism to let the outside community educate about the tradition and culture of Bali.
