Tourist Places In Bali

Thousands of Hindu temples dotted all over the island are famous Bali destinations that earn the country the title of ‘Island of the Gods’. But that is only a fraction of Bali points of interests. From the moment one steps foot in Bali, humid tropical ambiance imbued with aroma of spices and rain, and the sight of greenery hits the senses like intoxication. Thanks to the ever-growing South Asian tourism and bestselling book/movie Eat, Pray, Love – Bali sightseeing has become quite a sensation, and rightfully so.

Here are some of the must- visit places when it comes to the best Bali places to visit:

  • Tegallalang and Jatiluwih Rice Terraces

  • The name of the place, Bali, inevitably brings the image of lush green fields of rice along slanting terraces, stretching over for miles. Teggallalang is one of the popular places to visit in Bali (Indonesia), while Jatiluwih covers more than 600 hectares. These two are among the most famous rice fields in Bali, and also the most beautiful and picturesque. Whether visitors want to go for a hike along the trails or simply enjoy the emerald spread from a café – these rice fields are among the best places to visit in Bali.

  • Pura Besakih

  • ‘Pura’ means ‘temple’ in Balinese, and Pura Besakih is the oldest, largest and holiest Hindu temple complex in Bali. Perched 1000 meters high along the slopes of Mount Agung in eastern Bali, the six levels of Pura Besakih have 23 different shrines within its complex, but all of them are related in some way or other. This is one of the top destinations in Bali.

  • Pura Tanah Lot

  • The nickname of Bali is an explanation enough that most of Bali tourist attractions are sites of spirituality. Pura Tanah Lot is located at the tip of a rocky islet heading out to the sea, with white waves crashing at its 16th-century base. The visitors have to walk through a maze set up by a number of hawkers and then climb up the temple shrine for a spectacular view of the brilliant blue stretched till the horizon. Sunsets here are a rewarding experience to have and features as top Bali sightseeing places.

  • Ubud Art Market

  • There are many museums and galleries that display the fruits of the famous Balinese Art Movement, but at Ubud Art Market, one of the most interesting places to visit in Bali, tourists get to choose and take souvenirs home. Bamboo and wood carvings, jewelry, sculptures, paintings, decors and typical clothing pieces of Bali – sarong, and sash – everything is available here at affordable prices. During evenings, the center square of the mart hosts folk dance performances. There are art and craft workshops as well.

  • Goa Gajah

  • Goa Gajah is different from other Bali tourist destinations. It is an archaeological cave remains from the 9th century a few kilometers from Ubud region in western Bali. Though the exact historical origin is uncertain, it is assumed that Goa Gajah elephant caves served as a spiritual center for early Hindu sages. It is open for the tourists to descend and explore the relics – rock wall carvings, bathing pools, desolate fountains and a chief cave supposedly for meditation.

Apart from the above mentioned top tourist attractions in Bali, Uluwatu Temple, Ubud Monkey Forest, and Kintamani Volcano and Mount Batur along with its Crater Lake command a visit. Exploring Bali main attractions is incomplete without visiting these hotspots. From honking of the tuk-tuks to jangling of roadside stalls, from exotic hiking trails to numerous attraction sites – there are Bali attractions for every traveler. Since Bali offers something for everyone – it is up to the choice of the traveler to decide whether to visit all the temples in Bali or explore the jungle trails or indulge in art and craft galleries.
