Visit the Jibhi Waterfall in Mandi

Jibhi Waterfall (GB Waterfall), Banjar Valley, Kullu, Himachal Pradesh

Witness the nature’s magic at Jibhi waterfalls

Rated 4.20/5 ( based on 10840 reviews )

Jibhi Waterfall, known locally as GB Waterfall, sits a short forest walk from Jibhi village in the Banjar valley of Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, near the boundary with Mandi. It is a modest, multi-tier cascade that drops through deodar and oak forest into a clear, cold pool. The setting is what people remember: wood-and-stone houses, apple orchards, and a path that crosses Tirthan feeder streams on little wooden bridges. The Great Himalayan National Park is about an hour away, and Jalori Pass sits above the village. If you want a calm half-day in the forest rather than a crowded viewpoint, this is it. Below you will find where it is, how to reach it, entry and timings, and the best months to go.

Where is Jibhi Waterfall (also called GB Waterfall)?

Jibhi Waterfall is in the Banjar valley, part of the Seraj region of Kullu district. This trips up a lot of visitors, because the village sits close to the boundary with Mandi and many listings, including this page's own web address, file it under Mandi. The honest answer is Kullu. Tripadvisor, local guides and the tehsil records all place Jibhi in Banjar, Kullu. It is fair to describe it as being on the Mandi side of Kullu, roughly 60 km from Mandi town, which is why people searching for a waterfall in Mandi often land here. You will also see the falls called GB Waterfall. Same place, two names. If a driver or a signboard says GB Waterfall, that is Jibhi Waterfall.

How to Reach Jibhi Waterfall

Jibhi is well connected by road and awkward by rail, so most people drive or take a bus. From the plains the usual route is Chandigarh to Bilaspur, Sundernagar and Aut, then the turn for Banjar and Jibhi. From Aut it is about 30 km. By air, the nearest airport is Bhuntar (Kullu-Manali), around 60 km away with flights from Delhi, though many travellers instead fly to Chandigarh and drive. The nearest railway station is the narrow-gauge line at Joginder Nagar, about three hours out, so most rail travellers come via Chandigarh or Kiratpur. HRTC buses run to Banjar and Jibhi from Mandi, Kullu and Delhi. From Jibhi village the falls are a walk, not a drive: follow the marked forest path for about a kilometre, cross two small wooden bridges, and you reach the pool in 15 to 20 minutes.

From Distance Approx. drive
Aut ~30 km 1 hour
Mandi town ~60 km 2 hours
Kullu ~60 km 2 hours
Bhuntar airport ~50 km 1.5 to 2 hours
Manali ~100 km 3 hours
Shimla ~150 km 5 to 6 hours

Entry Fee, Timings and Best Time to Visit

There is no ticket counter at the falls, and entry is free at the time of writing. You may be asked for a small parking or local charge near the trailhead, so carry a little cash. For the current position, see our Jibhi Waterfall entry fees page. There are no fixed gates, but treat it as a daylight spot: aim to reach it between about 9 am and 5 pm so you are walking the forest path in good light. Across the year, the falls run hardest during and just after the monsoon, from July to September, when the flow is strong but the path is slippery. The most comfortable stretch is March to June, when the weather is pleasant and the pool is swimmable, and again September to November, when skies clear after the rain. Winter is cold and quiet, and Jalori Pass above the village can close after snow.

What to Expect at the Falls

Jibhi Waterfall is not a single giant drop. It falls in tiers through the forest into a clear, cold pool that is shallow enough to wade at the edges. People come here to sit on the rocks, dip their feet and photograph the water against the deodars, rather than to chase a dramatic viewpoint. The walk in is half the appeal, with wooden bridges, moss, birdsong and the Tirthan feeder streams. Around the village you can add short hikes, birdwatching and trout fishing on the Tirthan, and most homestays will set up a bonfire in the evening. Wear shoes with grip, because the last stretch of path and the rocks by the pool stay wet.

Nearby Attractions in Tirthan Valley

Jibhi works best as a base for the wider Banjar and Tirthan area. Chehni Kothi, also spelt Chaini, is a tall dry-stone tower fort about a two kilometre trek away, built in traditional Himachali kath-kuni style of interlocked wood and stone, with the Shringa Rishi temple on the way. Jalori Pass, about an hour from Jibhi, is one of the higher motorable passes in this part of Himachal and stays open through most of the year. From the top it is an easy walk to Serolsar Lake through old oak forest. The Raghupur Fort trek starts near Jalori and climbs gently through the woods. Further out, Barot valley and its deodar forests, and Rewalsar (Triveni) lake near Mandi, both make good day additions.

Planning to stay a night or two? Jibhi pairs well with the wider Tirthan valley. See our guide to places to visit in Jibhi, browse a Jibhi and Tirthan Valley tour, or read the full Himachal tourism guide.

    Mandi Travel FAQs

Which district is Jibhi Waterfall in?

Jibhi Waterfall is in Banjar valley, in the Seraj region of Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh. It sits close to the boundary with Mandi, which is why it is often listed under Mandi, but the correct district is Kullu. Jibhi is about 60 km from Mandi town and a similar distance from Kullu town.

Is GB Waterfall the same as Jibhi Waterfall?

Yes. GB Waterfall is a local nickname for the same waterfall near Jibhi village. If you see signboards, maps or drivers referring to GB Waterfall in this part of Himachal Pradesh, they mean Jibhi Waterfall. There is no separate second waterfall by that name.

How far is Jibhi Waterfall from Mandi, Kullu, Bhuntar and Manali?

By road, Jibhi is roughly 60 km from Mandi town (about 2 hours), around 30 km from Aut, about 60 km from Kullu, close to 60 km from Bhuntar airport, and around 100 km from Manali (about 3 hours). The falls themselves are a short forest walk from Jibhi village.

Is there an entry fee to visit Jibhi Waterfall?

There is no ticket to see the falls, and entry is free. You may be asked for a small parking or local charge near the trailhead, so carry a little cash. For the current position, see our JJibhi Waterfall entry fees page.

When is the best time to visit Jibhi Waterfall?

March to June and September to November are the most comfortable months, with pleasant weather and clear skies. The falls run strongest from July to September during and after the monsoon, but the forest path is slippery then. Winter is cold and quiet, and Jalori Pass above the village can close after snowfall.

How do you reach the waterfall, and how long is the walk?

Drive or take a bus to Jibhi village, then follow the marked forest path for about a kilometre. You cross two small wooden bridges and reach the pool in 15 to 20 minutes. It is an easy walk suitable for most people, but the last stretch is uneven and wet, so wear shoes with grip.

Is Jibhi safe for solo and family travellers?

Yes. Jibhi is a calm, low-crowd village that is comfortable for solo travellers, couples and families, including children. The waterfall pool is shallow at the edges but slippery on the rocks, so keep an eye on young children near the water and do not wade in far after heavy rain.
