Rajmachi Fort is known for a famous trekking point, the popular trek begins from Lonavala and ends at the fort.

There are two fortresses of Rajmachi named as Shrivardhan and Manaranjan. One can see panoramic views from the fort which is located in Lonavala, Pune. Most travelers come here for trekking and to discover panoramic views. While trekking witness lush green mountains, a great number of waterfalls, historical forts, deep valleys, villages, water reservoirs, and stunning rivers.

History of Rajmachi Fort Pune

The fort was built by the Satavahanas Kingdom during 230 BC. It was only in the year 1657 that the kingdom became famous when it was taken over by Shivaji Maharaj, who defeated Adil Shah of Bijapur and took over the kingdom. During the reign of Shivaji, Rajmachi Fort was used for defensive purposes and battalion was added to the structure.

The architecture of the Rajmachi Fort

Rajmachi fort is famous for its architecture comprising of huge and robust walls, big gateways, administrative centers, secret exits, and water reservoirs. The fort is built on two hills named as Shrivardhan hill and Manaranjan hill. Rajmachi Fort has two forts inside names as Shrivardhan Fort and Manaranjan Fort which are constructed in traditional Indian Style. There was a big water reservoir build near the fort and there is a famous Shiva temple near the water reservoir.

Rajmachi fort trek is very famous among the group of trekkers and nature lovers. The fort is settled amidst the beautiful hills of Sahyadri. On the way, you will come across many caves which are used by the trekkers to spend overnight. While trekking one can cover places like Mahadev Temple which is located by the side of Uday Sagar Lake, visit Uday Sagar Lake which was constructed in the year 1712, explore Bahiroba Temple near Shrivardhan and Manaranjan, see fireflies in pre-monsoon, and discover Kataldhar waterfalls during monsoons.
