About Shivneri Fort in Pune
The birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Shivneri Fort is located near town Junnar in Pune, Maharashtra. Due to the rich history of Shivneri Fort related to the Maratha Empire, many tourists like to visit this fort. The fort was used to protect the trading route between Desh and Kalyan. The fort was taken over by the Britishers in the year 1820 during the Third Anglo-Maratha War.
The architecture of the Shivneri Fort is very strong and invincible. It has fought various battles and still stands erect. Though, few of the inner attractions have been destroyed but still the sort is well preserved by the tourism industry of Maharashtra. There are various attractions of Shivneri Fort that fascinates tourists to pay a visit to this fort. In this triangular shaped structure located atop a hill has a temple of Goddess Shivai. Chhatrapati Shivaji was named after the Goddess Shivai only. There are caves behind this temple. Ambarkhana is another place which was used for storing grains in the past. Inside the fort are various water tanks which are named after the holy rivers in India like Yamuna, Ganga etc. There is also a foundation called Shivkunj of Chhatrapati Shivaji inside the Shivaji Shivneri Fort which was laid by the first CM of Maharashtra named Shri Yashavantrao Chaman. Inside the fort, the birthplace and the exact building where Shivaji was born can also be seen with statue of Shivaji installed.
Youngsters also go on for Shivneri Fort trek as it is quite adventurous and thrilling. It takes around 1 hour to reach the fort if you choose to go to it by trekking. Chain route is what the trekkers prefer while trekking to the fort. Reaching the top of the fort, one can capture amazing views of the other forts like Chavand Fort, Nimgiri Fort, Narayangad Fort etc.
