Best Time To Visit

You can go on a McLeodganj tour throughout the year, thanks to its pleasant weather. Although some times are better suited for a vacation than others, you can plan a trip based on what you hope to achieve there; whether adventure is on your mind or whether you simply want to relax. Take a look below to see which season would suit you best:

Summer

The summer season in McLeodganj lasts from April to July, when the average temperature seesaws between 22° C and 32° C. It is a good time to get away from the heat of the city, especially during early summers. It is also a great time to enjoy a few treks, such as Kareri Lake and Indrahar Pass, since there is next to no rainfall and clear views can be guaranteed.

Winter

October to February brings on the winter season in McLeodganj, with loads of snowfall and chilly weather. This can also be termed as a good time to visit McLeodganj, since the entire terrain seems to be covered in a white blanket, with a bonfire and piping hot food taking centrestage. The average temperature during the winters hovers around 7° C to -3° C.

Monsoon

McLeodganj experiences the monsoon season from July to September, with an average temperature of 18° C and 22° C. This cannot be described as a good time to visit McLeodganj, even though the rains leave the place looking fresher and greener than ever. This is because the unpredictable rains play spoilsport with sightseeing plans, and also make trekking a dangerous sport due to slippery roads and chances of landslides.

How To Reach Mcleodganj?

Reaching Mcleodganj is pretty easy, especially if you love road trips, which is actually the easiest way to get here. Take a look below to know which other mode of transport you can team it up with:

By Road

If you are driving over from nearby cities such as Delhi, Chandigarh or Panipat, you are in for a treat. The roads leading to Mcleodganj are pretty well maintained, so a road trip is sure to be a delight. Alternatively, there are plenty of private and government buses that connect these cities and other nearby destinations to Mcleodganj, which can offer a comfortable journey to all. The buses will leave you at the bus stop, near the city centre from where you can walk over to the main market and even your hotel.

By Train

Since there are no railway stations in Mcleodganj, those commuting by train would have to deboard at Pathankot, which is the nearest railway station. From here, regular buses and private taxis are available to bring you to Mcleodganj comfortably.

By Flight

There is no airport in Mcleodganj; and the nearest airport Gaggal also experiences limited connectivity. If you want to reach here by air, the best thing to do would be to deboard at either Delhi or Chandigarh airport, and board a taxi or bus to reach Mcleodganj.

Our travel experience was very good with Travel Vichar. Ms, Shilpa (from travel vichar) arranged itinerary very well. Quality of rooms and services of hotel Clarks Inn Suites in Kangra and Moonglade in Dalhausi was great. Hotel at Kangra (Clarks Inn Suits) was awesome. Food ambiance and management are really good Clarks Inn Suites was the best among all the three hotels. Driver, Mr. Kewal Kumar was nice person and his driving skill is very good. Travel Agent Ms. Shilpa is very nice and supported where need. But the hotel in McLeodganj, Sky Bhagsu was not good. It is like a guest house not like a 3 star hotel. Rooms are very small just like stores in houses. Even basic amenities are not available in rooms. Thanks to Ms. Shilpa, Travel Vichar and Travel Triangle for great experience.

Jayanta's 7 days trip to Himachal

Our trip was initially Organised by Pallavi, she gave her best time to make fit as per my request. Since we were travelling with a 3year kid, I request her to make a comfortable itinerary with maximum coverage and I happy to share that she was able to deliver the same. On trip coordination from @Shivam was also good, at last moment he suggested to change one hotel, which I believe correct decision when we saw the location of previous hotel. Overall it's a very satisfactory trip, I will give 9 out of 10. Only things I believe need to improve food quality and varieties in hotels, every next day their food menu was repeating. If we stay for there nights we have to eat same menu for two nights, same things I face for both the hotels in Dalhousie and Mcleodganj.

Amit's 8 days trip to Himachal

It was a nice trip to Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, Dalhousie and Amritsar. Hotels and food were good in all places except for one place. Driver(Aman) was a nice person, throughout the journey we kept talking and discussing about many topics. The thing which can be improved: We have to pay the extra money if we want to go to places which have the snow. It should be taken care in initial package itself. One suggestion to all visitors, do your research about activities which you would like to do before the trip, otherwise you will fall into trap of buying the packages, some of them are not even worth it. I was charged to visit the Apple garden, step farming but when I went there, there was nothing, no apples at all except dry trees. Shimla Mall road, Sisu snow, Mcleodganj, Khajjiar, Kalatop, Amritsar Golden temple, Wagah border, Partition museum and local food.

Tarun's 5 days trip to Himachal

Trip was good but could have been amazing if below things were considered : - hotels were under construction .weired wooden smell was there. -If one tourist attraction is closed it should be tell before hand. Alternative should be there for such closures. - flower used for decoration were not fresh and candle light dinner was just average. Could have been arranged better. -departure bus was not that luxurious and prior information of timing can be better. Any how trip was good and we make good memories out of this .some hassles are expected. But we missed both attraction of trip because of different causes :- -khajjar and paragliding because of road closure. -dhrmsala stadium because of maintenance. --Snow track of kalatop in Dalhousie. --sunsets of naddi point in mcleodganj.

The suggestion to Travel to mcleodganj ie almost 8hr journey by car shouldn't have been given. 3 days in manali is already hectic and travelling so far wouldn't be the great option as a result of wch we had to cancel the last part of journey and travel on our own instead. Overall trip was good.
