About Dwarahat in Almora
Located in the Almora district of Uttarakhand, Dwarahat is a town and a nagar panchayat which is perched at the gorgeous hills of Kumaon in the same state. Dwarahat sits at a height of 1,510 metres above sea level, and can be a perfect spot for a peaceful vacation.
According to the local language here, Dwarahat literally means ‘Way to Heaven’. Dwarahat is a tourist attraction because of the ancient temples built here during the rule of Katyuri kings. One of the striking features of the temple is its architecture which is quite similar to that of the famous Gurjari School of Art.
An ancient town that is blessed with marvelous temples and spectacular scenes, Dwarahat is a perfect retreat for an idle vacation in the Kumaon hills. The town is also revered for its unique inheritance and religious sentiments. There are around 55 temples which have been here since ancient times ( around the Medieval age) by the kings of Katyuri dynasty. Now, Dwarahat is a true representative of the religious importance and heritage of the entire district.
Dwarahat is not only famous for its historical significance but also acts as a seat to some of the most respected Hindu deities. People from all over India come here to seek blessings from the deities of Hindu mythology. It is easily accessible from Ranikhet and just takes a day for a thorough visit. Some of the famous temples to be visited here are the ancient temples and and Dunagiri Devi Temple. One of the main attractions in Dwarahat is the Syalde Bikhoti Fair. It is held annually during the month of April. This festival marks the victory on the day of Vishuwat Sankranti. It is also a good opportunity to enjoy the folk dance and music festival during this time.
