About Dwarahat in Almora

Located in the Almora district of Uttarakhand, Dwarahat is a town and a nagar panchayat which is perched at the gorgeous hills of Kumaon in the same state. Dwarahat sits at a height of 1,510 metres above sea level, and can be a perfect spot for a peaceful vacation.

According to the local language here, Dwarahat literally means ‘Way to Heaven’. Dwarahat is a tourist attraction because of the ancient temples built here during the rule of Katyuri kings. One of the striking features of the temple is its architecture which is quite similar to that of the famous Gurjari School of Art.

An ancient town that is blessed with marvelous temples and spectacular scenes, Dwarahat is a perfect retreat for an idle vacation in the Kumaon hills. The town is also revered for its unique inheritance and religious sentiments. There are around 55 temples which have been here since ancient times ( around the Medieval age) by the kings of Katyuri dynasty. Now, Dwarahat is a true representative of the religious importance and heritage of the entire district.

Dwarahat is not only famous for its historical significance but also acts as a seat to some of the most respected Hindu deities. People from all over India come here to seek blessings from the deities of Hindu mythology. Also, if you want to take a break from the crowd, head to Dwarahat in Uttarakhand and enjoy a peaceful vacation amidst the hills. It is easily accessible from Ranikhet and just takes a day for a thorough visit. Some of the famous temples to be visited here are the ancient temples and and Dunagiri Devi Temple. One of the main attractions in Dwarahat is the Syalde Bikhoti Fair. It is held annually during the month of April. This festival marks the victory on the day of Vishuwat Sankranti. It is also a good opportunity to enjoy the folk dance and music festival during this time.

    The first two days of our trip was a total waste of time because of the lousy cab that reported to us one hour after we landed in Dehradun. And after that he has no money to pay the finest as his wheel was locked by the authorities for parking over time . Due to this attitude of the driver ,we were
    delayed for our trip to Rajaji and further that delayed and we missed the ganga Aarti at Haridwar . The next day too the same cab driver was hanging around and we refused to go in that car . PLEASE NOTE- This can was different than the video and photographs of the vehicle that was sent to us before booking the travel agent . Finally Mithila travels agreed to send us a better car and said that we have to pay ₹1500/- per day extra .. When we demanded to cancel our entire trip and asked for refund .. this price was brought down to ₹500/ per day and we had to accept because we were just hanging around Dehradun doing nothing for two days .     Aaryam Resort stay was very good. All arrangements were upto the mark. Food and staff was very good. Hotel Royal Galaxy was not good and was very ordinary. Not as expected based on the hotel pics shown before boking. Bathroom was stinking. No restaurant for food. I dont recommend it. Cab driver
