Auli history
In the 8th century A.D., the great Guru Adi Shankaracharya is said to have visited Auli. He built a temple at Joshimath, known as Shankaracharya Tapasthali (also known as Joshimath temple), which still exists and has been proving great tourist attraction. Later Auli became a training center for the men of Indo Tibetan Border Police Force. Men there were trained to survive in extreme weather conditions prevalent in Auli and they were famous for their proficiency with ski equipment. Auli Lake There is one more interest great thing, Auli has the world's largest Man Made Lake! Auli lake is beautifully located right in the middle of the slopes and high mountains.
