According to the history of Robbers Cave Dehradun, the place is said to be the humble abode of Lord Shiva. Although according to the Hindu mythology, the home of the lord is at Kailash Parvat, the local legends in Dehradun adds to the list of the places where God resides.
The place is essentially a natural cave formation that is about 600 meters long and is divided into two parts through a gorge. This formation is located in a conglomerate limestone area on Doon Valley's Dehra plateau. The cave has the highest fall of about 10 meters. There is a fort wall structure in its center which is now in a broken state. This narrow gorge has a tiny stream flowing between it. The amazing thing about Robbers Cave in Dehradun is that the stream that flows inside it suddenly appears and then disappears underground, only to appear again about a few yards away.
