Why Choose Kashmir for Your Honeymoon?
Few places in India let a couple pack this much variety into one short trip. Morning fog lifting off Dal Lake, an afternoon riding the Gulmarg gondola over snow, and dinner in a wooden houseboat, all inside 48 hours. The valley stays cool through the North Indian summer, so a June wedding can be followed by a genuinely pleasant honeymoon while the plains are at 44 degrees. Distances are short (Srinagar to Gulmarg is about 50 km, to Pahalgam about 89 km), which means less time in transit and more time together.
It also photographs beautifully in every season, which is why couples who marry in winter still come: Gulmarg and Sonmarg turn white from December, and a snow honeymoon has become the valley's second peak. The upshot is simple. Kashmir gives you lakes, alpine meadows, Mughal gardens and snow within a two-hour radius of one airport, and a honeymoon package ties the stays, cabs and sightseeing into a single price so you plan the memories, not the logistics.
What Makes It a Honeymoon: The Romantic Inclusions
A honeymoon package is not a tour with two seats. The difference sits in the details our agents arrange for couples, and these are the extras worth asking for when you customise:
• Candlelight dinner. A private dinner for two, usually on the houseboat deck or lakeside on your first or last night. Ask for it in advance so the agent can set it with the property.
• Private shikara at dusk. A shikara ride timed for sunset on Dal or the quieter Nigeen Lake, just the two of you rather than a shared boat, is the single most-loved couple moment travellers report back.
• Flower-decorated room. A flower-bed and room decoration on arrival night, on the houseboat or hotel. Most agents can arrange this with a day's notice.
• Honeymoon cake. A small celebration cake on your first evening, easy to add to any package.
• A night on a houseboat. Almost every honeymoon itinerary opens or closes with one houseboat night on Dal or Nigeen. It is the most romantic stay in the valley and the reason couples pick Srinagar as the base.
These are add-ons, so confirm which ones are included when you compare quotes. On TravelTriangle you can tell the agent “we want the candlelight dinner and flower room on night one” and it comes back priced into the itinerary rather than as a surprise on the ground.
Kashmir Honeymoon Package Cost
A Kashmir honeymoon starts from Rs 11,984 per person for a short 3N/4D trip, and most couples on a 5N to 7N trip spend about Rs 20,000 to Rs 60,000 per person, depending on how long you stay, your hotel tier and whether you fly in. Budget 3-star road trips start lowest; a mid-range trip with a houseboat night and deluxe hotels sits in the middle; a luxury honeymoon with a 5-star or premium houseboat and a private cab is the top band. The table below is a per-person guide (two people sharing). All figures are indicative and change with season and availability.
| Tier | 5N/6D | 6N/7D | 7N/8D | What's in it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Budget (3-star, road) | from Rs 20,000 | from Rs 21,500 | from Rs 25,250 | 3-star hotels, shared cab, breakfast+dinner, sightseeing |
| Mid-range (deluxe + houseboat night) | ~Rs 30,000-38,000 | ~Rs 40,000-48,000 | ~Rs 50,000-60,000 | Deluxe hotels + 1 houseboat night, private cab, candlelight dinner |
| Luxury (5-star / premium houseboat) | ~Rs 55,000+ | ~Rs 70,000+ | ~Rs 90,000+ | 5-star / premium houseboat, private cab, all romantic add-ons |
Two levers move the price most: the season (Dec-Feb snow and the Apr-Jun tulip peak cost more than the Jul-Sep and monsoon windows) and airfare, which is usually quoted separately. Booking three to four weeks ahead gets the better houseboats and the fairer cab rates. For the fuller range of Kashmir tour packages across every budget and traveller type, the main Kashmir page lists all 250+ itineraries.
Best Romantic Places for Couples
Most honeymoon itineraries string together four bases, and each has one or two spots couples remember most. Here is what to prioritise, plus the quieter corners rivals rarely mention.
Srinagar
Your arrival base and the most romantic one. Take a shikara across Dal Lake at first light or sunset, stay a night on a houseboat, and walk the Mughal gardens (Nishat, Shalimar, Chashme Shahi). For a sunset view over the whole lake, climb to Pari Mahal, the terraced Mughal garden couples come to for photographs. If you want a calmer, more private lake than Dal, ask to stay on Nigeen (Nagin) Lake instead. Srinagar airport is about 12 km from Lal Chowk in the city centre.
Gulmarg
About 50 km from Srinagar, Gulmarg runs one of the world's highest gondolas. Phase one lifts you to Kongdoori; phase two climbs to Apharwat peak, snow-covered even in summer, which makes it the couple photo of the trip. In winter this is the country's top ski slope. In summer the meadow greens up and there is a golf course couples can play. For a half-day outing, Seven Springs is the easy one; Alpather Lake, a high glacial lake at the foot of Apharwat peak, is a strenuous pony ride or trek from the gondola and only open roughly June to October. In heavy snow, Srinagar cabs often cannot climb from Tangmarg, so couples switch to a local 4x4 with chains for the last stretch.
Pahalgam
The valley of shepherds, about 89 km from Srinagar, and the one couples slow down in. Wander Betaab Valley for the marquee couple photo and follow the Lidder river up to Aru. Baisaran meadow ("mini-Switzerland") has stayed closed to visitors since the April 2025 attack, so check its status with the agent before planning around it. Inside Pahalgam, local sightseeing runs on Pahalgam Taxi Union cabs rather than your Srinagar car. Pahalgam suits couples who want quiet walks over crowds.
Sonmarg
The “meadow of gold,” about 79 km from Srinagar. A pony ride or short trek takes you to Thajiwas Glacier, and from May to November couples push on to Zero Point beyond Zojila for year-round snow. In winter Zojila and Zero Point are shut, but the Z-Morh tunnel (opened January 2025) is meant to keep Sonmarg itself reachable for a snow day, weather permitting. Sonmarg is also the gateway to the Sonmarg-Leh road if you are bundling Ladakh.
Quieter corners for couples
If you want the valley without the crowds, ask the agent about Doodhpathri and Yusmarg, two offbeat alpine meadows an easy day from Srinagar. Both stay green and empty long after Gulmarg fills up, and they are where honeymooners go for a private picnic. For the full list of romantic places to visit in Kashmir, our dedicated honeymoon-places guide goes deeper on each.
Hotel or Houseboat: Which Is Better for a Kashmir Honeymoon?
Most couples do both, and that is the honest answer. One or two nights on a houseboat for the romance, the rest in a hotel for comfort and location. Here is how they compare so you can split your nights well.
| Houseboat (Dal / Nigeen) | Hotel (Srinagar / hill towns) | |
|---|---|---|
| Romance | Highest. The signature Kashmir honeymoon stay | Comfortable but conventional |
| Comfort | Cosy; heating and hot water can be basic; occasional power cuts | Consistent heating, hot water, room service |
| Location | On the lake; shikara to shore | In town or near attractions; easy to move |
| Best for | 1-2 nights in Srinagar for the experience | The rest of the trip and the hill towns |
| Tip | Pick a Nigeen houseboat for quiet; confirm heating in winter | Deluxe/5-star for the honeymoon splurge nights |
Our recommendation for a 5N/6D trip: one houseboat night on arrival, then hotels in Gulmarg and Pahalgam. Meal timings on houseboats are fixed (food is brought in), so eat when it arrives, and pack a power bank in case of a cut.
Sample Couple Itineraries
5 Nights / 6 Days: The Classic Honeymoon
• Day 1: Arrive Srinagar, houseboat check-in, sunset shikara on Dal, candlelight dinner.
• Day 2: Srinagar sightseeing (Mughal gardens, Pari Mahal), transfer to Gulmarg.
• Day 3: Gulmarg gondola to Kongdoori/Apharwat, meadow walk, night in Gulmarg.
• Day 4: Drive to Pahalgam via saffron fields; evening by the Lidder river.
• Day 5: Pahalgam: Betaab Valley and Aru by local union cab (Baisaran only if it has reopened), back to Srinagar.
• Day 6: Leisurely morning, departure.
7 Nights / 8 Days: Add Sonmarg and Slow Down
The 5N plan with an extra Srinagar day and a full Sonmarg day (Thajiwas Glacier, plus Zero Point from May to November when Zojila is open). This is the length most honeymooners say felt right, enough to cover all four bases without a rushed day. Any of these can be reshaped around your dates and origin city.
What Is the Best Time to Visit Kashmir for Couples?
Kashmir is a year-round honeymoon, but the season changes the trip completely. Match the window to the honeymoon you want.
Spring and summer (March to September)
The postcard season. The Tulip Garden blooms for about three to four weeks from late March to mid-April, the meadows are green, the gondola runs, and Sonmarg's high roads open up. Days are mild and evenings cool. This is peak for couples who want colour and long walks. It is also the busiest and priciest window, so book early.
Winter (December to February): The Snow Honeymoon
Kashmir's second peak, and a favourite for couples who married in winter. Gulmarg, Sonmarg and parts of Srinagar turn white, Apharwat and the Sonmarg meadows are deep in snow (Zero Point itself is shut until Zojila reopens), and a houseboat with a heater becomes a cocoon. If snow is the point of your trip, our guide to snowfall in Kashmir covers exactly when and where it falls. A winter Kashmir package works too if you are travelling with family alongside.
Monsoon (July to early September)
The quiet, value window. Fewer tourists, softer hotel rates, and apple-plucking season in the orchards. Rain comes in short spells rather than all day. Good for budget-minded couples who do not mind the odd wet afternoon.
Kashmir Honeymoon Packages from Top Cities of India
Every package can start from your city, with or without airfare. Srinagar has direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and other metros, so most couples fly in and start the trip the same day. Popular origin routes include Kashmir packages from Mumbai and packages starting in Srinagar, and the agent can quote your exact origin. Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru couples usually add a night to offset the longer flight. Tell the agent your city and dates and the fare comes back origin-adjusted.
Things To Do for Couples in Kashmir
Beyond the sightseeing, the valley has more to do together than any honeymoon destination in the country. Protect a half-day for at least one of these:
• Gondola ride, Gulmarg. The gentle thrill both of you will enjoy; go to phase two for the snow.
• Book gondola tickets online on the official J&K Cable Car Corporation site (jammukashmircablecar.com) well ahead; phase two slots sell out fast in peak season.
• Shikara ride, Dal / Nigeen. The couple ritual. Do it at dawn for the floating market or dusk for the light.
• Skiing & snowboarding, Gulmarg. December to February; lessons available for first-timers.
• Golf. Gulmarg and Srinagar have some of the highest courses in the world, an unusual honeymoon photo.
• Paragliding, trekking, river rafting & angling. For active couples, the valley packs in adventure most rivals cannot match.
Want to combine the valley with high-altitude Ladakh or a Vaishno Devi darshan? Ask about a Kashmir and Ladakh package that bundles both into one honeymoon.
How to Reach Kashmir
By air
Srinagar International Airport is the fastest way in, about 12 km from the city centre, with direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and other metros. Most honeymoon packages can include airfare so you land and start the same day.
By train
Srinagar is now on the national rail map through the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla line, and a Vande Bharat Express connects Jammu and Katra to the valley, a scenic ride over the Chenab bridge. Jammu Tawi remains a major railhead, roughly 250-265 km from Srinagar by road on NH44 now that the Chenani-Nashri and Banihal-Qazigund tunnels are open. For current trains, timings and the route from the plains, see our Delhi to Kashmir trains guide.
By road
NH44 (the old NH1A) connects Jammu to Srinagar year-round, a long but famously scenic drive through Banihal. Most couples fly and use road transfers only within the valley, which the package cab covers.
What's Included and What's Not
Honeymoon packages bundle the big costs, but a few things are usually extra. Confirm the exact list on your quote so there are no surprises on the ground.
| Usually included | Usually not included |
|---|---|
| Hotel & houseboat stays | Airfare (unless you add it) |
| Airport and inter-city transfers by private cab | Gondola, pony and activity tickets in some plans |
| Daily breakfast and dinner (most plans) | Lunch and personal expenses |
| Sightseeing per itinerary | Entry fees, tolls and taxes on some routes |
| Romantic add-ons on request (dinner, cake, decor) | Travel insurance (worth adding for winter trips) |
Domestic travellers do not need a permit or visa for the valley. Foreign nationals should check the current rules before booking. Tolls and green taxes on some hill routes may be billed separately, so ask. Travel insurance is inexpensive and genuinely worth it for a winter honeymoon when weather can shift plans.
Prepaid SIM cards issued outside Jammu & Kashmir do not work in the region, so carry a postpaid connection or pick up a local prepaid SIM on arrival.

FAQs About Kashmir Honeymoon Packages
How much does a Kashmir honeymoon package cost for a couple?
For two people sharing, a 5N/6D honeymoon runs roughly Rs 40,000 to Rs 1,20,000 total depending on tier. A budget 3-star road trip starts near Rs 20,000 per person; a mid-range trip with a houseboat night and deluxe hotels is Rs 30,000 to Rs 48,000 per person; a luxury honeymoon is Rs 55,000+ per person. Airfare is usually extra.
How much will a 7-day Kashmir honeymoon trip cost?
A 7N/8D honeymoon covering Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg costs about Rs 25,000 per person at the budget end and Rs 70,000 to Rs 90,000+ per person at the luxury end, before flights. Season and hotel tier move the number most; booking three to four weeks ahead gets the better rates.
Is Kashmir good for a honeymoon?
Yes. Its cool climate, lakes, meadows and snow give couples lakes-to-mountains variety within a short radius of one airport, plus signature romantic stays like houseboats. It is one of the most-booked honeymoon destinations in India for exactly that reason.
What is the best time to visit Kashmir for a honeymoon?
March to September for tulips, green meadows and the Gulmarg gondola. December to February for a snow honeymoon in Gulmarg and Sonmarg. Both are peak seasons; July to early September is the quieter, better-value window.
Which is better for a Kashmir honeymoon: hotel or houseboat?
Do both. One or two houseboat nights on Dal or Nigeen for the romance, and hotels for the rest for comfort and location. Pick a Nigeen houseboat for quiet, and confirm in-room heating if you travel in winter.
Are romantic inclusions like a candlelight dinner and shikara ride part of the package?
They can be. A candlelight dinner, private sunset shikara, flower-decorated room and honeymoon cake are standard add-ons our agents arrange for couples. Ask for them when you customise so they are priced into the itinerary rather than added later.
How many days are enough for a Kashmir honeymoon?
Five nights covers Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam comfortably. Seven nights adds Sonmarg and a slower pace, which is what most honeymooners say felt right. Three or four nights works only if you focus on Srinagar and one hill town.
Do couples need a permit for Sonmarg, Yusmarg or Aru?
Domestic travellers do not need a special permit for the main valley circuit. Some high points and offbeat meadows have local entry or vehicle charges collected on the spot. Foreign nationals should check current rules before booking.
Is it safe to visit Kashmir for a honeymoon in 2026?
The tourist circuit (Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonmarg) is well travelled and busy through the season, and our local agents provide 24x7 on-trip support. Follow current local advisories, keep to the standard circuit, and travel insurance is worth adding, especially in winter.
What should couples pack for a Kashmir honeymoon?
Summer: light layers, a warm jacket for evenings, sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes and an umbrella. Winter: heavy woollens, thermals, gloves, a woollen cap, waterproof boots and a hot-water bottle. Snow points like Gulmarg, Sonmarg and (in summer) Zero Point are cold even when Srinagar is mild.
What is included in a Kashmir honeymoon package?
Most packages include hotel and houseboat stays, private-cab transfers and sightseeing, and daily breakfast and dinner. Airfare, activity tickets, lunches, some tolls and travel insurance are usually extra. Check the exact inclusions on your quote.
Can I customise my Kashmir honeymoon package?
Yes. Every itinerary is customisable: change any day, hotel tier, origin city, trip length or romantic add-on. Tell the agent what you want and the quote comes back adjusted.
What are the best places to visit on a Kashmir honeymoon?
Srinagar (Dal Lake, Pari Mahal, Mughal gardens), Gulmarg (gondola to Apharwat), Pahalgam (Betaab Valley, Aru; Baisaran closed since April 2025) and Sonmarg (Thajiwas Glacier, Zero Point May-November). For quiet, add Doodhpathri or Yusmarg.
What food is served on a Kashmir honeymoon tour?
Vegetarian, non-vegetarian and Jain meals can all be arranged with prior notice to the agent. Do try the local Wazwan dishes: Rogan Josh, Yakhni, Dum Aloo and Goshtaba.
What can couples shop for in Kashmir?
Pashmina shawls, saffron (kesar), Kashmiri kahwa and spices, walnut-wood handicrafts, papier-mache, dry fruits and copperware make the best keepsakes and gifts.
What problems might we face on a houseboat?
Power cuts happen, so carry a power bank. Meal timings are fixed because food is brought in, so eat when it arrives. In winter, confirm the houseboat has working heating before you book.
Can we combine Kashmir with Vaishno Devi or Ladakh?
Yes. A Jammu and Kashmir itinerary can add a Vaishno Devi darshan, and a Kashmir-Ladakh package bundles the valley with high-altitude Leh. Ask the agent to build either into your honeymoon.
