About Kakkayam in Kozhikode
A beautiful damsite surrounded by lush green landscape, Kakkayam is located in the Kozhikode city of Indian state Kerala. Being surrounded by a number of animals, this place is also called Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary and is a Unesco World Heritage Site. There is also a waterfall in close proximity to the dam called Orakkuzhi. It is a great place for wildlife lovers and also for those who love nature. Everything around the dam is so serene and peaceful that it will beguile you to spend more and more time here.
The road journey to the Kakkayam Dam is equally beautiful. With dense forests on one side and rocky hills on the other, it feels amazing to drive through this road in order to reach the dam. Adventurous activities like trekking and rock climbing can be enjoyed here. Various exotic birds can also be spotted in this area. Kakkayam tourist place is not very well known to many people traveling to Kakkayam, hence it remains quiet and serene. Boating in the dam can also be enjoyed for 15 minutes and offers great views of the surrounding landscape and also of the waterfalls nearby.
Kakkayam weather remains pleasant almost throughout the year. However, the best time to feel the real charm of Kakkayam is from April to November. There are a number of attractions near this dam like Kakkayam Valley, Urakuzzhi Ghat, Kariyathan Rock, and Hanging Bridge. Being located at the outskirts, Kakkayam in Kerala is often considered as a good spot for picnics and outings.
