A detailed guide to the 'Paradise of the South' based on real traveler experiences

Kovalam is a coastal town, which is known as the ‘Paradise of the South’. Kovalam tourism is all about its beaches and exquisite monuments. In fact, tourists often find themselves getting hypnotized by its beauty. Not only tourists but also people from around Kovalam go there to rejuvenate themselves. It is especially known for its crescent-shaped beaches, namely the Hawa Beach, the Lighthouse Beach and the Samudra Beach, which are only some of the best points of interest.

Being close to Thiruvananthapuram, which is the capital of Kerala, it is easily accessible to those traversing by sea as it is located on the southwest coast of India facing the Arabian Sea, which explains the abundant number of beaches.

Tourism in Kovalam is growing at a fast pace, with more and more people going there every year. The rich culture and the way some of the festivals are celebrated there, you will be overwhelmed by the diversity in this town and the harmony that surrounds the people. Here, one can also get a chance to enjoy water sports and shopping. Though, there isn’t much of a nightlife in Kovalam, but there are some splendid places to sit and watch the sun go down.

Kovalam was once and still remains a haven for hippies and every year, there is an influx of backpackers from Europe and Israel. We really had great time at trip. We had to change our hotel at kovalam as the service was not good. The agent didn't confirm hotels before our arrival. The driver was not communicated the itinerary. 90% we had to manage everyday hotels n itinerary. We also included kanyakumari in our trip, but later agent asked for additional cost. Plus more pathetic was travel triangle's agent. Not supportive at all.

Hotel at Munnar and thekkady was good. Hotel at kovalam below standard. Houseboat at alleppy was a disaster. We leave house boat, no alternative accommodation provided by travel agent and book hotel at our own cost( Reimbursements must done). One suggestion, Never book houseboat online. Leave it to travelers to book at own after reaching alleppy.for travel agent, Need improvement in tour package planning. Taxi services was good enough. Driver was polite and always on time. overall tour was nice Munnar was the best part of trip.

    • Trip to Kovalam

I used Travel Triangle and a few people reached out to me with different quotation but I went with Travel Unbounded as they were happy to customise according to my needs. But I really need to point out: DRIVER 1. We did not get the car we were promised and the car had a half broken glass. 2. Our drivers kept changing and we were given the wrong details of the person and car. 3. Driver hardly knew any Hindi and nor did he know good which made our trip more than just difficult. 4. Driver stressed us to go places that he thought were worth going too even when they were out of the way. 5. The first driver took parking money from us whereas the second driver never asked for it. So was it on us or no? 6. The driver took us to the beach where we could only spend 20 mins knowing the fact we only had half a day. If we would have known kovalam beach was next to our hotel and we would have loved to have a dip there instead of preferring a boat ride AGAIN. CULTURAL ACTIVITIES 1. We were asked by the driver to see kathakali at twice saying its one of the best. 2. We were repeatedly asked to do safari whereas, we could have considered some other thought over options. 3. The house boat was platinum but smelled of petrol the whole time we were in the room, which even had an AC. Also, we understand Kerala tourism is taken seriously by the state govt but really didn't feel like we had a say in what we wanted to do or how we felt. And It really matters how your driver describes the place and curates the trip for you and your compatibility with him. But overall I really think if we would have had another person with a different attitude, we would have remembered more happy stuff than just this.

Overall the trip was too good specially our driver Mr. Abhilash. He is too good. Munnar Thekkady hotel was good. Soma Palm shore resort at Kovalam wasn’t upto the mark. We really dint liked their service and there so called private beach which actually isn’t operational and is too risky. Houseboat at Allepey was good, although we encountered an issue in the boat because of which we got a new boat.

I have just visited Kerala for my honeymoon with Travel Triangle through Holiday Package Bookings. It was 7 days - 6 nights trip where we went to 4 different places in Kerala. Overall management and services provided by Mr. Abhinay Singh were very well. Just one suggestion for all travelers, please have your hotel vouchers in your hand to avoid 11th hour rush. Anyways agent takes care of that if such things happens but just for your confirmation it is good to have it. One best thing I will mention it here is our cab driver Binil, he was very caring and good human being by nature since he was with us throughout the trip and did all of his duties with extreme dedication. We got surprised by Mr. Abhinay as he provided us a premium suit in our last resort in Kovalam with sea facing view from that room. It added a spoon of sugar in our milky happiness. Thanks for all the services.
