About Hiking at Horton Plains National Park in Kandy

Horton Plains, located on the southern plateau of Sri Lanka is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is home to the famous Horton Plains National Park which is one of the major tourist attractions in Sri Lanka. The climate here is exactly like a Montane Forest, the temperature varies between 14 to 16 degrees centigrade almost throughout the year. Horton Plains National Park is a great destination for hiking, there are a lot of activities that you can do here but the best of them is hiking. After completing the hike, once you reach the top you will get majestic views of the “World’s End”. This hike is considered to be easy but it is advised to hire a tourist guide who will tell you about the history and flora and fauna of the place. The Horton Plains National Park is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Here’s what all you can do in Horton Plains National Park.

Hiking To World’s End at Horton Plains:

Located in the depths of the plain, the world’s end is the reason why most tourists visit the Horton Plains Sri Lanka. Also, in your way to the world’s end, you may see rare species of animals as this place is a biological hotspot. Its is a 9km round trip. After completing this 9km hike you can see the beautiful views of tea plantations and the city from here.

Experience Baker’s Falls:

Baker’s Falls is a very popular waterfall located in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The height of this waterfall is around 66 feet. It is a famous spot among the tourists, tourists like to relax, enjoy and click pictures here.

Witnessing its flora and fauna:

The area surrounding Horton Plains National Park is rich in flora and fauna, there are around 750 species of plants and 150 species of animals here. You can see Magpie, Sri Lankan Lion, deers, Wood Pigeons on your way. This place is a must visit for nature lovers.

    Our holiday with trip travel hub was good. Efficient service for people in our group wanting a change in itenary at last moment. Travel agent was very accommodating. Gave us good car with driver. Only at Mirissa the room given to us was on 4th floor but no lift facility.

    I would say my overall trip was fine but there is scope of improvement when it comes to itinerary and planning. We could not cover a lot of points irrespective of the fact we started everyday as early as 9am. We barely got any time to shop in Colombo, in fact Lotus tower was the only place we could
    vidit after our arrival to Colombo and the cab driver didn't let us shop the next day or on our last day when we headed 5-6 hours early to the airport. The hotels were good except for the fact that two of them had no lifts but we had to climb stairs which was not beforehand. In fact the hotel which had a great view in Kandy, I requested the agent if we could stay there instead of going to Nuwara eliya but since it was last minute it was not acceptable. I would give 3 out 5 as there is scope of having better experience. My best memory is the time we spent in the Millennium elephant orphanage where we fed and bathed the elephant and walked with one.
