About Silver Cascade Falls in Kodaikanal
Silver Cascade Falls came into being when in the year 1863 Madurai's British Collector Sir Vere Henry Levinge dammed waters of three streams to construct an artificial lake. The result was Kodaikanal Lake. The overflowing water of Kodai Lake is collected and channeled through a stream that gushes down as these glistening falls. Pouring on Madurai - Kodaikanal road, at a distance of approximately 8 Km from the city, these falls sprint into a pool adjacent to the Ghat Road.
During monsoons, the cascades present an alluring sight. The falls are named “Silver Cascade” as when there is less rain, the spouting falls from the height of 180 feet, appear to be of silver color. Needless to say, this is not just an ideal place for nature lovers but also provides an amazing backdrop for those with a selfie fetish. Watching the sparkling water, falling into a heaving pool is a sight to behold. What makes these falls all the more amazing is the fact that the waters are rich in minerals.
In addition, Silver Cascade Waterfall is much more than a heaving spurt. Tourists can also delight in the scenery around created by rugged rock formations and verdant foliage that flank either side of the cliff. This is a great photo opportunity to capture some amazing memories. A tranquil waterfall cross the road that flows beneath a bridge also draws attention.
Silver Cascade Falls in Kodaikanal also serve as a halting point for vehicles and tourists as there are several shops dotted around. Visitors can buy refreshment or snacks from the stalls that stand close to this cascade.
