The Katarmal Temple is located in close proximity to Almora, approximately 19 km from the main town.

Constructed by a Katyuri King, Katramalla in the 9th century, the Katarmal Surya temple gets its name from the ruler who ordered its construction. It is a rare sun temple that is found amidst the hills. You can trek your way to the temple. It is a steep climb of about 2 km and is likely to provide utter satisfaction once you witness the majestic view from the hilltop. The Sun temple houses the deity Burhadita, the ancient Sun God. It also houses 45 other temples. The other temples have idols of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and many more. The architecture of the Katarmal Sun Temple, Almora depicts the style that was prevalent in that era and is bound to leave you enraptured. The temple was declared an important monument under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act of 1958.
