About Jwalamukhi Devi Temple in Dharamshala

One of the most renowned ancient temples of Goddess Durga, Jwalamukhi Devi Temple is a sacred place established by Raja Bhumi Chand Katoch of Kangra.

Set amidst the undulating hills, the temple is situated under the gaze of the Dhauladhar range. The temple is perfectly constructed with a gilt dome and pinnacles, and possesses a beautiful folding door of silver plates. The temple attracts thousands of tourists of pilgrim every year.

Jwalamukhi Devi Temple is located on Dharamshala-Shimla Road and is a very popular tourist attraction among people coming to Dharamshala. Since Jwalamukhi is believed to be the Goddess of flame, no idol is located inside the temple and the deity is worshipped in the form of flames which come out from the crevices of the rock. This unique characteristic separates the temple from others in the region.

There is a small platform in front of the temple and a huge brass bell that was presented by the King of Nepal. The temple also has a mystic Yantra or diagram of the goddess which is covered with shawls and ornaments.
