About Tea Museum in Munnar
Opened by Tata Tea group in 2005, the Tea Museum diligently displays the origin and evolution of century-old tea plantations in Munnar. The museum is among the most significant places to visit in Munnar. This industry and history museum is located at Munnar town in the Idukki district of Kerala in South India. Officially named Tata Tea Museum, it is also popularly known as Nalluthanni Estate or Kannan Devan Tea Museum. The estate is owned by Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company (KDHP) and its plantation dates back to the 1880s.
The Tata Tea Museum in Munnar is a fitting tribute to its pioneers who transformed the region into a major tea plantation centre in Kerala. Its collections range from the rudimentary tea roller to the modern and fully automated tea factory. Visitors here can satiate their curiosity by learning about various stages of tea processing like crush, tear, and curl. A section of the museum also showcases classic bungalow furniture and office equipment from the Colonial era in Kerala.
Tea tasting in a demonstration room for visitors is another experience worth having. From black tea to green tea, visitors can soothe their palate with delicious variants of tea flavours. A collection of colonial items including photographs are also kept here.
