About Top Station in Munnar
The Western Ghats in Kerala have been used for tea plantation since the British Raj. One of these heavenly places in God’s Own Country is Munnar. This hill station lies within the largest tea-growing region in South India. Located about 32 kilometres from Munnar in Idukki district, Top Station offers an expansive view of the spectacular Western Ghats. During the British Raj, Top Station in Munnar used to be a trans-shipment point to deliver tea by train to Madupatty and Munnar, and later by rope to Kottagudi. The place derives its name from being the highest railway station, at an altitude of 1700 m, in the Kundala Valley.
Top station is located on the Munnar-Kodaikkanal road in eastern Kerala. Hidden amidst lofty mountains and swirls of pale mists, this scenic spot is an ideal destination for planning a weekend or a romantic getaway in Kerala. Low-flying clouds, emerald green rolling hills, and a velvety carpet of tea make your holiday in Munnar truly memorable.
Besides tea estates, Neelakurinji flowers in a nearby sanctuary are one of the main reasons to visit the region. These flowers reach their bloom only once in 12 years making it one of the rarest sights for travellers. So, a visit to Munnar is absolutely incomplete without enjoying the beauty of the Western Ghats from Top Station. The destination also allows opportunities to travellers for photography, camping, and trekking in Munnar.
Top Station Munnar weather is usually misty and windy. So make sure to carry a light woollen jacket to avoid cold weather. Top Station Munnar camping is a great way to enjoy the company of your friends around a bonfire and stunning views of the hills.
