Sri Lanka Solo Tour Packages

Private Sri Lanka solo tours with your own room, own car and an English-speaking driver-guide.: rated 4.3/5 (based on 3381 reviews) | Packages starting from ₹23,999/-

Sri Lanka Tour Packages for a Single Person

These Sri Lanka solo tour packages are planned around one traveller, not a couple. Ask for any package below and the quote you get is for a private room, with a car and English-speaking driver-guide that you don't share with anyone, plus airport transfers and daily breakfast.
Most people travelling alone from India book 6 or 7 days. That covers Sigiriya at sunrise, the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, the tea country around Nuwara Eliya and a night on the south-west coast. Indian passport holders currently get a free 30-day tourist ETA, and a non-stop flight from Delhi to Colombo takes about 3 hours 35 minutes. Still deciding? Read our Sri Lanka solo travel guide. For couples and families, see all Sri Lanka tour packages.

Quick facts for a solo trip to Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Solo Tour Packages Compared

The table below lists every package on this page with its twin-share starting price. Travelling alone, you pay for a private room and an unshared car, so your figure is higher, and the next section explains exactly where the difference comes from.

Package Nights and hotel Route Twin share from (Rs) Best for
Sublime Sri Lanka Solo Tour 6N/7D, 3-star Sigiriya, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Bentota, Colombo 45,000 First solo trip, the classic loop at an easy pace

Sigiriya Sightseeing Tour 4N/5D, 3-star Sigiriya, Colombo 17,144 A long weekend, the cheapest solo option

All prices are land-only and per person. Exact rates move with the season and hotel availability, so the final figure comes in your quote.

Single Room vs Twin Share: What a Solo Traveller Actually Pays

Most Sri Lanka packages online quote a twin-share price, which assumes two people splitting one room and one car. Travel alone and you pay for the whole room and the whole car, so a solo price usually lands at 1.4 to 1.8 times the twin-share figure. The jump is biggest on 3-star routes, where the car is a larger share of the bill.

To bring it down, choose a route with fewer hotel changes, or travel in April, October or November, when hill-country and south-coast hotels cut single-room rates. Every quote shows the single-room price as its own line before you pay a deposit.

Sri Lanka Trip Cost for One Person from India (2026-27)

A 7-day solo trip from India costs Rs 55,000 to Rs 75,000 if you go the backpacker way, and Rs 85,000 to Rs 1,15,000 on a TravelTriangle package with a private room and your own driver-guide, return flights included in both. The Tourist ETA is free for Indian passports as of October 2026 (apply only on eta.gov.lk), and hiring a private car on your own costs Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 a day. Sigiriya is the single biggest entry ticket (current Sigiriya entry fee).

Cost item (one person) Backpacker DIY TravelTriangle solo package
Return flight to Colombo Rs 12,000 to Rs 22,000 from Chennai, Bengaluru, Kochi or Trichy; Rs 22,000 to Rs 32,000 from Delhi or Mumbai Same, booked separately or added to the quote
Tourist ETA Rs 0 Rs 0
Stay per night (single room) Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000 in a guesthouse or hostel Included (3-star or 4-star)
Getting around per day Rs 300 to Rs 800 on buses and trains Included (private car and driver-guide)
Food per day Rs 800 to Rs 1,500 Rs 1,200 to Rs 2,500 (breakfast included)
Entry fees for 7 days Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000 Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000 unless listed in the package
7-day total incl. flights Rs 55,000 to Rs 75,000 Rs 85,000 to Rs 1,15,000

For a real benchmark, TravelTriangle traveller Govind paid US$502 in 2022 for a 5N/6D solo trip with local agent Udani Holidays with transfers, a cab, sightseeing and breakfast; prices have moved since, so treat it as a floor. Read the Govind solo trip to Sri Lanka travelogue. To spend less, see budget Sri Lanka tour packages.

How to Choose the Right Sri Lanka Solo Package

By travel style. Every package on this page runs as a private tour with your own driver-guide, which is the most flexible way to see Sri Lanka alone. You set the wake-up time and nobody waits on you at the temple. If you would rather travel with other people, ask for a Sri Lanka group tour date and join it as a single traveller.

By budget. Under Rs 35,000 for one traveller, look at the 4N/5D Sigiriya trip or the 5N/6D natural and historical loop on 3-star hotels. Between Rs 40,000 and Rs 60,000 you get 6 nights on 4-star hotels with either the adventure or hiking route. Above that sits the dedicated solo tour and the 9-day loop with Yala.

A 7-day solo route that works

Most first-time solo travellers follow a version of this loop, and the Sublime Sri Lanka Solo Tour is built on it.

1. Land in Colombo, drive about 4 hours to Sigiriya.

2. Climb Sigiriya Rock early, before the 9 am heat, then see the Dambulla cave temple.

3. Drive to Kandy for the Temple of the Tooth and an evening cultural show.

4. Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, then up into the tea estates around Nuwara Eliya.

5. Optional swap: take the train from Nanu Oya to Ella for Nine Arch Bridge and Little Adam's Peak.

6. Down to Bentota for a mangrove boat ride on the Bentota river and an afternoon on the beach.

7. Colombo for Galle Face Green at sunset, then the airport.

Top Places and Solo Tours in Sri Lanka

These are the stops our solo packages build around.

Sigiriya. The 5th-century rock fortress rises about 180 metres from the plain, and the climb past the frescoes and the Lion's Paws takes roughly an hour. Go at opening time to beat the crowds. More on Sigiriya.

Kandy. The last royal capital and home of the Temple of the Tooth. If you are there in July or August, the Esala Perahera festival fills the streets with dancers, drummers and decorated elephants. See places to visit in Kandy.

Nuwara Eliya and Ella. Tea country. Nuwara Eliya sits at about 1,900 metres, with Lake Gregory and the pink 1894 post office. Ella, about three hours from Nanu Oya on the hill-country train, is where solo travellers tend to meet each other over the walk to Little Adam's Peak.

Galle. A fort town fortified by the Dutch. Walk the ramparts to the lighthouse late in the afternoon.

Mirissa and Yala. The south coast adds whale watching from Mirissa (December to April) and leopard safaris in Yala, where a shared jeep makes a solo booking easy.

For the full list, see places to visit in Sri Lanka.

Best Time to Visit Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has two monsoons hitting opposite coasts, so the right month depends on where your itinerary goes. For the south and west coast and the hill country (Galle, Mirissa, Bentota, Kandy, Ella), December to March is the driest and busiest stretch, so book solo rooms early. For the east coast (Trincomalee, Arugam Bay), May to September is the season. April, October and November fall between the two monsoons. Mornings are often clear, but afternoon thunderstorms are common across the island, and October and November are among the wettest months of the year. In return, these months have the cheapest single rooms, so plan indoor or flexible afternoons. Our Sri Lanka best time to visit guide has the month-by-month breakdown, and our agents will match the route to your dates.

Is Sri Lanka Safe for Solo Travellers, Including Women?

Yes. The main tourist route from Colombo through Sigiriya, Kandy, Ella, Galle and Mirissa is well travelled, English is spoken at hotels, stations and most shops, and the usual trouble is touts and pushy tuk-tuk drivers. A few habits help.

• Book tuk-tuks through the PickMe or Uber app so the fare is fixed before you get in.

• Cover your shoulders and knees at temples, remove shoes and hats, and never pose with your back to a Buddha statue.

• Skip empty beaches and unlit roads after dark, especially on the south coast.

• On popular trains, sit in a reserved first or second class seat.

• Save the Sri Lanka Tourism hotline (1912) and police emergency number (119) in your phone.

On every solo package your driver-guide is arranged by a verified local agent, and women travelling alone can ask for a female-friendly agent. Read how Ankush spent his solo trip to Sri Lanka, and our Sri Lanka travel tips cover etiquette and money.

Visa and Flights for Indian Solo Travellers

Indian passport holders need a tourist ETA before flying, applied for online at eta.gov.lk. Since 25 May 2026 it has been free for Indians, valid for 30 days with double entry. The scheme was announced as a time-limited programme, so check the fee on the day you apply. The full process is in our Sri Lanka visa guide for Indians.

Flying from Non-stop to Colombo Typical return fare
Chennai About 1 hr 20 min Rs 12,000 to Rs 20,000
Bengaluru About 1 hr 40 min Rs 13,000 to Rs 22,000
Kochi / Trichy About 1 hr 15 min Rs 12,000 to Rs 20,000
Mumbai About 2 hr 45 min Rs 22,000 to Rs 30,000
Delhi About 3 hr 35 min Rs 24,000 to Rs 32,000

Why Book with TravelTriangle?

You deal only with the top 10% of reviewed agents, selected after a 23-step assessment, and TravelTriangle releases payment to the agent only after you receive your vouchers. Your Sri Lanka agent stays reachable 24x7 on the trip. Twin-share prices on this page were checked against live package rates by our Sri Lanka desk on 22 October 2026.

Planning Your First Solo Trip to Sri Lanka

For a first trip abroad alone, Sri Lanka is a sensible start: the flight is short, the visa is online and you rarely drive more than four hours a day. Tell your agent if you are vegetarian, since options thin out in smaller towns. Share your dates for a quote priced for one.

Booking with agent Travco was smooth and they were accomodating in selecting hotels based on our choice. Cab/guide was very helpful and knowledgeable and he speaks English fluently so we didn't face any problem. Travel triangle support could be better prior to booking as dealing with multiple agent

ess itinerary, and ensuring every detail was taken care of. Your professionalism, prompt assistance, and dedication made our trip smooth from start to finish. A very special thanks to our tour guide plus driver Mr. Aruna Dsilva who was the true highlight of our journey. Your warm hospitality, extensive knowledge of Sri Lanka, patience, and friendly nature made us feel at home throughout the trip. You went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Your flexibility and willingness to accommodate our preferences made our experience even more special. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country, but it was the people we met. We return home with wonderful memories and would highly recommend this travel team to anyone planning a visit to Sri Lanka.

Dinesh's 12 days trip to Sri Lanka

Overall we are very satisified with the trip and we had a great time. Trip was well oraganized. Cab was clean, driver was on time mostly. Hibiscus beach resort near Bentota, Kamrel hotel at Sigiriya, Magampura eco village resort at Yala were the best properties. As far as improvements are concerne
d: Hotels at Kandy was below average on all parameters. Food at Nuwarya Ellia hotel was below average, howver, they accommodated indian food request Most importantly, we should have been allowed freely to choose government authorized operators for whale watch, Madu boat safari , polonurwarya city tour who offered tickets at half the price compared to Glamour asia recommended operators. No such restriction was mentioned in the itinerary Also, we had to book tuk tuk at Merrissa as cab was not available for whole day Several places mentioned in itinerary were not covered on one pretext or another eg Ambuluwawa. adam peak, Zip line etc. On the other hand, we were charged 10K LKR for polonurwa sight seeing in lieu of village tour and cultural programme in which we were not interested Lastly, we should have given flexibility to adjust time for sighseeing spots a little eg some spot is more appealing than the other Overall it was a good trip and well organized Thanks to Travel triangle and its partner So many of them eg Lion Rock, Nuwarya Elliia, merrissa whale watch, tea lounge, gem making, Hibiscus beach resort with priavte area, lotus tower at colombo .. so and so forth

FAQs About Sri Lanka Solo Tour Packages

What is the cost of a Sri Lanka tour package for a single person?

Sri Lanka tour packages on this page start at Rs 17,144 per person on twin share for 4 nights and 5 days, land only. Travelling alone, you pay for the whole room and the whole car, so a single-person price usually works out to 1.4 to 1.8 times the twin-share rate. Add Rs 12,000 to Rs 32,000 for return flights depending on your city, so a full week with your own car and driver-guide usually totals Rs 85,000 to Rs 1,15,000. Every quote lists the single-room price as its own line.

Is it safe to have a solo trip in Sri Lanka?

Yes, Sri Lanka is one of the easier countries in South Asia to travel alone. The Colombo, Sigiriya, Kandy, Ella and Galle route is well travelled and English is widely spoken. Use PickMe or Uber for tuk-tuks, avoid isolated beaches after dark, and save the Sri Lanka Tourism hotline 1912 and police number 119. A private driver-guide on our packages adds a layer of support all day.

Do Indians need a visa for Sri Lanka in 2026?

Yes, Indians need a tourist ETA, which is Sri Lanka's electronic visa, applied for online at eta.gov.lk before you fly. Since 25 May 2026 the ETA has been free for Indian passport holders, valid for 30 days with double entry. The free scheme was announced as a time-limited programme, so confirm the fee when you apply. Visa on arrival is not the route to rely on.

Is there a single supplement on Sri Lanka solo packages?

Yes, in the sense that one traveller pays for a whole room and a whole car. That is why a solo price is about 1.4 to 1.8 times the twin-share rate shown on most listings. Our agents show the single-room cost as a separate line in every quote, and travelling in April, October or November brings it down.

How many days are enough for a solo trip to Sri Lanka?

Six to seven days is right for a first solo trip. It covers Sigiriya, Kandy, the tea country around Nuwara Eliya or Ella, and a night on the south-west coast. Four or five days suits a Sigiriya and Colombo break. Nine days lets you add Yala National Park and Galle Fort without rushing.

Will I travel alone or with a group?

Every package on this page is a private tour. You travel with your own driver-guide and stay in your own room, and the itinerary moves at your pace. If you would like company, ask our agents about joining a Sri Lanka group tour departure as a single traveller.

Can I customise a Sri Lanka solo tour package?

Yes. You can change hotels, add or drop nights, swap a hill-country night for the Kandy to Ella train, or add a Yala safari or Mirissa whale watching trip. Share your dates and budget and the agent sends a revised quote, with the single-room price listed separately.

Is Sri Lanka good for solo female travellers from India?

Yes, many Indian women travel Sri Lanka alone on the main tourist route. Dress modestly at temples, use app-booked tuk-tuks, choose reserved seats on trains and avoid walking alone on unlit roads at night. On our packages you can ask for a female-friendly agent, and your driver-guide is vetted by a verified local agent.

What is the best time for a solo trip to Sri Lanka?

December to March is best for the south and west coast and the hill country. May to September suits the east coast around Trincomalee and Arugam Bay. April, October and November are the shoulder months with the cheapest single rooms, a good choice if you are watching your budget, though October and November bring frequent afternoon thunderstorms.

What languages can be used to converse while on a trip to Sri Lanka?

Sinhala and Tamil are the main languages, and English is widely spoken in hotels, stations, shops and by driver-guides on the tourist route. Learning "ayubowan" (hello) and "istuti" (thank you) in Sinhala goes a long way with locals.

Is there any dress code in Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka is hot and humid most of the year, so carry breathable cotton and linen. At temples and other places of worship, cover your shoulders and knees, remove shoes and hats, and avoid clothing with Buddha prints. Doing so is a sign of respect and helps you avoid unwanted attention. Pack a light jacket for Nuwara Eliya and Ella evenings.

How do I get around Sri Lanka alone?

On our packages a private car and English-speaking driver-guide take you between every stop. Travelling independently, you can use trains for the scenic Kandy to Ella stretch, intercity buses for cheap long hops, and PickMe or Uber tuk-tuks in towns. Reserved train seats open 30 days ahead and sell out fast in peak season.
