How to Reach Vietnam from Bangalore: Distance, Direct Flights and Visa (2026)

That makes Bengaluru one of the easiest Indian cities to start a Vietnam trip from. Along with Hyderabad, it is one of only two South Indian airports with nonstops to both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, so travellers from Mysuru, Mangaluru and the rest of Karnataka usually fly out of here. This guide covers the distance to each Vietnamese airport, flight numbers and timings, one-stop routes to Da Nang and Phu Quoc, fares, visa rules and what to do when you land at 6 am.

Bangalore to Vietnam Distance by Airport

Vietnam stretches about 1,650 km from north to south, so the distance from Bangalore depends on where you land. Phu Quoc, the island off the southern tip, is the closest Vietnamese airport to Bengaluru at 2,881 km. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the two cities with nonstop flights, are within 48 km of each other in distance from Bengaluru, so the choice between them comes down to your itinerary.

Here is how the four ways of travelling compare:

Vietnam runs on UTC+7, which is 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of Bengaluru. A flight that leaves at 11:40 pm IST takes off at 1:10 am Hanoi time.

Vietnam to Bangalore Distance

The return trip covers the same 3,110 km from Hanoi or 3,158 km from Ho Chi Minh City. Both airlines fly the return leg on the same days as the outbound one: Vietnam Airlines VN983 from Hanoi and VietJet VJ1801 from Ho Chi Minh City. Westbound flights often take 15 to 30 minutes longer because they fly into the winds.

Karnataka to Vietnam Distance

Bengaluru has the only nonstops to Vietnam in Karnataka. From any other Karnataka airport you either fly into Bengaluru first or take a one-stop flight through Mumbai, Hyderabad or Bangkok. Mysuru is about 3 hours by road from the airport, and most Mysuru travellers drive up for the night flight.

Is There a Direct Flight from Bangalore to Vietnam?

Yes. Two airlines fly nonstop from Bengaluru, and between them they cover all seven nights of the week. On Sundays both fly, so you can choose your city.

VietJet launched the Ho Chi Minh City route in March 2025 with three flights a week and now flies four, adding Sunday. Vietnam Airlines started flying Bengaluru to Hanoi on 1 May 2025. Older guides that still say "no direct flights from Bangalore", including the previous version of this page, were written before those launches.

The two airlines work differently. VietJet is a low-cost carrier. The base fare includes 7 kg of cabin baggage only, and checked bags, seats and meals are paid extras. Vietnam Airlines is full-service, with a meal on board and a checked bag on most economy fares.

Both flights are red-eyes. You board around 11 pm, get roughly three hours of sleep and land just after dawn. The first section of "Before You Fly" below explains how to handle that morning.

Connecting Flights to Hanoi, Da Nang and Phu Quoc

A one-stop flight makes sense on two occasions. The first is when you want to land in Da Nang, Phu Quoc or Nha Trang. The second is when your dates don't line up with the nonstop days. The old advice on this page, "fly via Bangkok in 7 to 10 hours", still works. It is just no longer the main option.

Two cautions. First, separate tickets through Hyderabad or Kolkata mean collecting and re-checking your bags, so leave at least 4 hours between flights. Second, if you land on VJ1802 at 6 am and connect to Phu Quoc, your domestic flight leaves from a different terminal at Tan Son Nhat. You will clear immigration in Ho Chi Minh City, so you still need the e-visa. Book the onward flight for 9 am or later.

Bangalore to Vietnam Flight Route Map

The nonstop flights head east-northeast across the Bay of Bengal and over mainland Southeast Asia. VN982 tracks up to Hanoi in the north, and VJ1802 runs almost due east to Ho Chi Minh City. One-stop routes bend south through Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, or north through Bangkok or Kolkata. Each adds 300 to 1,200 km to the distance flown, depending on the hub.

If you are going to Phu Quoc, Kuala Lumpur is the shortest detour, because Phu Quoc lies almost on the line from Kuala Lumpur to Ho Chi Minh City. If you are going to Da Nang, a Bangkok connection keeps the route closest to the straight line.

Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City: Which Airport Should You Fly Into?

Bengaluru has nonstops to both of Vietnam's main airports, which most Indian cities can't offer. So choose your airport by your itinerary, not by which city has a flight.

For a week or more, fly into one city and out of the other. Take VN982 to Hanoi, travel south by domestic flight or train through Da Nang and Hoi An, and fly home on VietJet from Ho Chi Minh City. You see the length of the country without doubling back. It works because Bengaluru has a nonstop at each end, which Chennai, Kochi and Pune don't. Bangalore to Vietnam Flight Ticket Price

A one-way economy ticket from Bengaluru to Vietnam usually costs INR 11,000 to INR 28,000, and a return costs INR 24,000 to INR 45,000. VietJet's sale fares to Ho Chi Minh City are the cheapest. Vietnam Airlines to Hanoi costs more but includes a checked bag.

Book 6 to 12 weeks ahead for the lowest nonstop fares. The cheapest weeks are usually late February and March, once the Tết holiday is over (Tết falls on 6 February 2027), and the wet season from May to September. Vietnam Visa for Indians Flying from Bangalore

Yes, Indian passport holders need a visa for Vietnam. Apply online for the e-visa at evisa.gov.vn, the official portal, at least a week before you fly. It costs US$25 for single entry or US$50 for multiple entry, it is valid for up to 90 days, and it is usually issued in about three working days. Your passport must be valid for six months from the date you enter.

The name on the e-visa must match your passport exactly, including the order of given name and surname, because the VietJet and Vietnam Airlines counters at Bengaluru check it before issuing a boarding pass. Phu Quoc allows 30 days visa-free only if you fly there directly from abroad. Connecting through Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi means clearing immigration first, so you need the e-visa anyway. Since April 2026, foreign visitors landing at Tan Son Nhat also file a pre-arrival declaration at prearrival.immigration.gov.vn within the three days before arrival, and it now covers Noi Bai as well. It takes about ten minutes and gives you a QR code to show at immigration, so do it on the evening before your flight. Before You Fly: Bengaluru Airport Tips and the 6 am Arrival

International flights at Kempegowda International Airport leave from Terminal 2, the garden terminal that took over international flights in 2023. Reach the airport 3 hours before the 11:35 pm or 11:40 pm departure. Check-in for both flights closes 60 minutes before departure. At night the 35 km drive from MG Road takes 60 to 75 minutes, and the BMTC Vayu Vajra airport buses run through the night if you'd rather not take a cab.

Carry some US dollars or a forex card, and an eSIM bought before you leave saves hunting for a SIM kiosk at 6 am. ATMs at both Vietnamese airports dispense dong. INR 1,000 is roughly VND 300,000.

Noi Bai Airport (HAN) to Hanoi Old Quarter

Noi Bai is 28 km from the Old Quarter. At 6 am the roads are clear, and a Grab car takes 40 to 50 minutes and costs about VND 250,000 to 350,000. Hotels in Hanoi check in at 2 pm, so either book early check-in for the night of your departure from Bengaluru, or leave your bags and head out for pho and egg coffee while the city wakes up.

Tan Son Nhat Airport (SGN) to Ho Chi Minh City District 1

Tan Son Nhat sits inside the city, 8 km from District 1. A Grab car takes 25 to 35 minutes in the early morning and costs about VND 120,000 to 200,000. If you land on VJ1802, a morning Cu Chi Tunnels tour is an easy way to use the first day without needing a hotel room.

Can You Go from Bangalore to Vietnam by Train, Road or Sea?

No. Flying is the only practical way to reach Vietnam from Bangalore.

By train. There is no railway between India and Myanmar, so no train route exists. The closest an Indian train can get you is Kolkata or Guwahati, and from there you still have to fly.

By road. On paper the route runs from Bengaluru to Moreh in Manipur, then through Myanmar, Thailand and Laos or Cambodia. That is about 5,000 km and more than 100 hours of driving. The Moreh-Tamu border crossing is closed to tourist transit, and even when it opens you need several visas, a Myanmar overland permit with a guide, and vehicle paperwork for each country. It isn't a holiday option.

By sea. No passenger ferry or scheduled ship runs from Chennai or any other Indian port to Vietnam. The only sea route is a cruise from Singapore that calls at Ho Chi Minh City or Nha Trang.

Best Time to Fly from Bangalore to Vietnam

October to April is the best time for a full north-to-south trip. Hanoi and Ha Long Bay are dry and cool from October to April (15 to 20°C in December and January, so pack a jacket, which Bengaluru travellers often forget). Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc are dry from December to April. Da Nang and Hoi An are at their best from February to August and get heavy rain in October and November.

For the lowest fares, fly in late February or March, or take the shoulder months of May and September and accept some afternoon showers.
