How to Reach Vietnam from Mumbai: Flights, Distance and Visa (2026)

Mumbai is the commercial capital of India, and its Vietnam connections changed completely in 2026. Akasa Air started flying to Hanoi in September and IndiGo added a daily Hanoi flight on 25 October. That makes 25 nonstop departures a week from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. If you read elsewhere that Mumbai flights stop in Bangkok and take 8 hours or more, that is out of date. Below are the flight days and timings, distances to each Vietnamese airport, fares, the visa and where to land.

Mumbai to Vietnam Distance by Air and Road

Vietnam is a long, narrow country, so the distance from Mumbai depends on which airport you fly into. Hanoi in the north is the closest of the two big cities. Nha Trang on the south-central coast is the farthest.

Air distance is the great-circle distance between Mumbai airport and each Vietnamese airport, calculated by our Vietnam desk from airport coordinates on 28 October 2026. It matches the 3,440 km and 3,734 km that Vietnam Airlines publishes for its own flights. You'll also see "about 3,200 km" quoted online. That is a rough country-to-country figure, not the distance your flight covers.

Here is how the travel options compare:

Vietnam runs on UTC+7, so it is 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of Mumbai all year. A flight that leaves Mumbai at 11:10 pm and lasts 4 hrs 45 min lands at 5:25 am Vietnam time.

Maharashtra to Vietnam Distance

Mumbai is the only airport in Maharashtra with nonstop flights to Vietnam. Pune travellers usually drive or take a cab to Mumbai airport, about 150 km and 3 to 4 hours on the Mumbai Pune Expressway, so for the 4:15 am IndiGo flight you leave Pune around 10 pm. From Nagpur, a single IndiGo ticket via Delhi or Kolkata is usually simpler than coming to Mumbai.

Is There a Direct Flight from Mumbai to Vietnam?

Yes. Four airlines fly nonstop from Mumbai to Vietnam, all from Terminal 2. Hanoi has a flight every day of the week, and on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays there are three or four to choose from. Ho Chi Minh City has a nonstop on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Every one of these flights leaves Mumbai between 11 pm and 6 am, so the timing matters more than the flight number. The two VietJet flights leave at 00:40, which means a "Tuesday" VJ910 departure is really Monday night, and travellers who read only the date turn up a day late. Vietnam Airlines and VietJet land you at Noi Bai or Tan Son Nhat before 7:30 am, hours before most hotels let you check in at 2 pm. IndiGo and Akasa suit people who'd rather sleep at home and lose the morning instead, landing at 10 am and noon.

Vietnam Airlines is the full-service choice, with an Airbus A350, a checked bag and a meal in the fare. VietJet's lowest fares cover a 7 kg cabin bag only, so add your checked bag online before the airport, where it costs more. For IndiGo and Akasa, read the fare type for baggage before you pay.

Mumbai to Vietnam Flight Route Map and Stopovers

The nonstop route from Mumbai heads east across central India and the Bay of Bengal, over Myanmar and Laos, into northern Vietnam. One-stop routes are worth knowing only for Da Nang, Phu Quoc and Nha Trang, or for dates when the nonstops are full.

A connection inside Vietnam is usually the fastest way to Da Nang or Phu Quoc, because you clear immigration at your first stop and the second flight is a domestic hop. If you book the two legs on separate tickets, leave at least 3 hours between them. On one ticket through Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, Indian passport holders who stay airside don't need a transit visa.

Mumbai to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City or Da Nang: Where Should You Land?

Land where the first half of your trip is, not where the ticket is cheapest. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are 1,160 km apart, and doubling back costs a domestic flight and most of a day.

Land in Hanoi (3,441 km) if your trip is about the north. Ha Long Bay is about 3 hours by road from Noi Bai, Ninh Binh about 2 hours, and Sapa about 5 hours or an overnight train. Land in Ho Chi Minh City (3,737 km) for the Mekong Delta, the Cu Chi Tunnels and a south-to-north route. To see both ends, book an open-jaw ticket, flying Mumbai to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City back to Mumbai. VietJet and Vietnam Airlines fly both routes, so one airline can usually sell it as a single booking, and you cross the country once on a 2-hour domestic flight.

Mumbai to Vietnam Flight Ticket Price

One-way economy fares on the Mumbai to Hanoi nonstops started at about Rs 11,000 on our late-October 2026 check. A return ticket usually costs roughly double the one-way fare, and Christmas and New Year dates go well above that.

Lowest one-way economy fares seen on ixigo for late October and early November 2026 travel. Fares are live inventory and change daily, so compare on the day you book.

The cheapest months to fly are usually February outside the Tet (Lunar New Year) week, and May to September. Late December and early January cost the most. Tet itself, in late January or February, fills domestic flights and trains inside Vietnam and closes many shops for several days, so avoid that week if you can. Compare total prices, not base fares, because a VietJet sale fare grows quickly once you add a 20 kg bag and a seat.

Vietnam Visa for Indians Flying from Mumbai

Indian passport holders need a visa for Vietnam, and the e-visa is the easiest way to get one. Apply only on the official Vietnam Immigration e-visa portal, evisa.gov.vn, not a reseller site that adds its own fee.

• The e-visa allows stays of up to 90 days, with single or multiple entry.

• It costs US25forsingleentryorUS50 for multiple entry, paid online by card, and you lose the fee if the application is turned down.

• Processing takes about 3 working days, so apply at least a week before you fly.

• Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you arrive.

• The form asks for your entry airport, so choose the one you're landing at, Noi Bai (Hanoi) or Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City).

Print the approval letter. The check-in counter at Mumbai asks to see it before it issues your boarding pass. Phu Quoc has its own rule. Foreigners can stay on the island for up to 30 days without a visa if they fly in from abroad, either directly (AirAsia flies Kuala Lumpur to Phu Quoc nonstop) or through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City without leaving the transit area. Before You Fly: Mumbai Airport Tips and Airport-to-City Transfers

All Vietnam flights leave from Terminal 2 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Reach it 3 hours before departure. For the 04:15 IndiGo flight that means being at T2 by 1:15 am, and the late-night international wave makes immigration queues longest between 11 pm and 2 am. Carry the printed e-visa, your return ticket and your first hotel booking. Some US dollars are easy to change into Vietnamese dong on arrival, and both Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat sell local SIM cards in the arrivals hall.

Noi Bai Airport (HAN) to Hanoi Old Quarter

The Old Quarter is about 30 km from Noi Bai, a 45 to 60 minute drive. Grab cars and airport taxis wait outside arrivals, and city bus 86 is the cheapest way to the Old Quarter and Hanoi railway station. Once you're in the city, cyclos (three-wheeled bicycle taxis), local buses and Grab bikes cover short hops.

Tan Son Nhat Airport (SGN) to Ho Chi Minh City District 1

District 1 is only about 7 km away, 25 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. Use Grab, a metered taxi from the official rank, or bus 109 to Ben Thanh market.

Can You Go from Mumbai to Vietnam by Train, Road or Sea?

No. Flying is the only practical way to get from Mumbai to Vietnam.

By train. There is no rail route from Mumbai to Vietnam, and no train ticket to buy. Myanmar's network doesn't connect to India or its eastern neighbours. The only international passenger trains into Vietnam come from China. A daily overnight train runs from Nanning to Hanoi's Gia Lam station, and a through train from Beijing runs twice a week, but you'd have to fly to China first. Immigration happens at the Dong Dang border station in the middle of the night, so keep your passport and visa to hand.

By road. The road distance from Mumbai is about 6,100 km, across Northeast India, Myanmar, Thailand and Laos. The Moreh border crossing into Myanmar is not open to tourist transit, and the conflict in Myanmar makes that stretch unsafe, so the full drive isn't possible today. If you're already travelling in Laos or Cambodia, though, buses and cars cross into Vietnam easily with the right visa, which is how many backpackers add Vietnam to a longer trip.

By sea. There is no passenger ferry from Mumbai to Vietnam. Cruise ships call at Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Ha Long Bay, but those itineraries start in Singapore or Hong Kong, so you'd still fly out of Mumbai.

Best Time to Fly from Mumbai to Vietnam

Fly between October and April for Hanoi and the north, December to April for Ho Chi Minh City and the south, and February to August for Da Nang and Hoi An. Vietnam is never dry everywhere at once, so pick your landing airport and your month together.
