Promoted by the district tourism promotion council, the Cochin carnival is an exemplification of the festive spirit and cheer of the people in this part of the world. A holdover from the colonial times, the Cochin carnival is a blend of cultures from Portuguese to Punjabi to the local Malayali with some aspects of Dutch culture sprinkled in as well. The carnival of Kochi is a true testament to the diversity and culture present in even the smallest pocket of India and a must experience for those travelling through the country at this time.
The Cochin carnival has a number of attractions in the shape of events and competitions. Some of the competitions included in the Cochin carnival schedule are beach football, beach bike race, kayaking, swimming, marathons and even boxing and wrestling. The main event of the carnival is the beautiful parade that is held on the last day with all sorts of dance forms and colorful displays on show.
