The Cochin carnival takes place every year in the last week of December preceding the New Year and is a blend of cultural diversity and festive cheer. It is visited every year by a number of people from outside the state that come specifically for this spectacle. The Cochin carnival is a big crowd puller for tourists visiting Kerala as well, as winter in Kerala is the ideal time to visit the state according to the climate. The festival is organized in Fort Kochi, a picture perfect area of the town of Kochi; your how to reach the Cochin carnival is a fairly simple process. The time of the Cochin carnival is when the entire city of Kochi lights up and celebrates and as such, getting to where the activities are taking place is never a problem. However, there are a few ways to get to Fort Kochi that all tourists should have a fair idea of. Kochi being a well connected airport, getting in is never a problem. However, it is a little far from Fort Kochi and as such, it takes about an hour and a half to cross these 43 kms. The nearest train station to Fort Kochi would be the Ernakulam Town station from where 3 wheelers and cabs are available to take visitors to the ferry. The ferry then goes straight to Fort Kochi and the whole process should not cost more than Rs. 100. It is important to note that at the time of the Cochin carnival, Cochin is full of visitors and locals, so going from one place to another is never hard to figure out.
