About Sanctuary of Truth in Pattaya
Sanctuary of truth is a major religious structure in Pattaya with both Buddhist and Hindu motifs decorating its interiors. Carved entirely from teak wood, the 105 m tall hall is a unique structure in the world as the structure itself is a mixture of a temple and a palace. Commissioned by a local businessman Lek Viriyaphant, the Sanctuary of Truth Pattaya has become one of the icons of Pattaya and appreciates the history, art, philosophy, and culture of the country without being tied down to a single faith and is yet to be completed with a preliminary completion date set to 2050.
The architecture is based on that of the Ayutthaya period and houses sculptures from a number of cultures. The sanctuary has four gopura representing images from a multitude of cultures and countries and houses philosophy and studies representing Asian culture and its influences and origins. The sanctuary symbolizes the constant struggle of life, and that is why the wooden structures are not preserved and exposed to the natural elements continuously succumbing to nature and being replaced. The whole structure is a work in progress and pays homage to the influences and origins of the human civilization and emphasizes the importance philosophy has played in the development of mankind and the human civilization.
The sanctuary offers tribute to the 7 creators that man needs to exist, Heaven, Earth, Father, Mother, Moon, Sun and Stars.
