About Similan Islands in Thailand

Similan Islands are another treasure in the treasure trove, which Phuket has to offer.

They are located 84 km northwest of Phuket and are famous for the vast stretches of blue sea. The place also has several mysteries beneath these blue waters, which attract tourists from all over the world. Similan Islands diving is a world-famous activity and is counted one among world's 10 most interesting diving areas. People who love gliding among the waves, also make this place a must visit in their itinerary as it is also a favourite destination for yachts and tour boats.

Similan is derived from the Malay word Sembilan, which means nine. Every Similan Island has a name as well as a number. Like this, there are nine Islands namely, Koh Ba Ngu, Similan, Payu, Miang, Payan, Payang and Hu Yong. Similan Island tour is never disappointing, as the place has thousands of things to offer. Scenic beauty is at its best in this place in the form of limestone Islands of Krabi or Phang Nga Bay. There is also a thick forest of lush green trees. The place is also the home to some of the most spectacular corals of the world, under the sea. Birds, butterflies, squirrels and reef fishes are found in plenty, which really makes people feel at one with nature.

Similan Islands where to stay is often the most important query among the visitors. This is because there are no proper hotels in the place. The best options are the bungalows or campsites. By staying in these places, one can best enjoy the tropical paradises. Koh Similan, Koh Tachai and Koh Meang are the only Similan Islands which offer accommodation. If one decides to stay in bungalows, one has to do the booking much in advance as there are only 35 of them and are always in high demand.

Ironwood and gum trees are found in plenty in this place. Jackfruit, rattan and bamboo are also quite abundant. Crab-eating monkeys, squirrels, langurs, lizards, bats and a great variety of birds are also present.

 

This place is known as the paradise for snorkelling and diving, due to the ideal topographical conditions. The beaches and the forests also make it favourable for cruising.

 

One can really face a huge problem if advance bookings of bungalows are not made. Transfer from the mainland also has to be booked separately.
