Tiger Kingdom in Phuket, Thailand
Take selfies with the fiercest and yet gentlest of tigers in Phuket
Rated 4.40/5 ( based on 6533 reviews )
Tiger Kingdom Phuket is a four-acre tiger park in the Kathu District of Phuket, at the base of Patong Hill, where you step inside an enclosure with a trained keeper to meet and photograph tigers up close. It sits about 5 km from Patong Beach and roughly 10 km from Phuket Town, an easy half-day trip from the west-coast resorts. You will also see it listed online and by taxi drivers as Tiger Park Phuket, which is the same attraction. Encounters run daily and are organised by the size of the cat, from young cubs to fully grown adults, with each session lasting around 10 minutes inside the enclosure.
What Is Tiger Kingdom Phuket?
At Tiger Kingdom Phuket, visitors get to experience wildlife right up close. Spread over an area of four acres, it is located at the base of Patong Hill in Kathu District on Phuket Island. Visitors get the chance to go up close with tigers of all ages and sizes, from cubs to fully grown adults, in an environment set up to care for the animals. It is one of the main attractions on Phuket Island, which is better known for its beaches, rainforests, nightlife, and seaside resorts.
Locally and online the park is often called Tiger Park Phuket, so searches for 'tiger park phuket' land on this same Kathu attraction. There is no separate tiger park in Phuket; the two names point to one place.
What to Expect: Tiger Encounters and Sizes
Encounters are organised by tiger size rather than sold as a single ticket. You choose which cats to meet, from the smallest cubs up to the big and king-size adult tigers, and the price rises with the size of the animal. We keep the full, current package and price list on the Tiger Kingdom entry fees page, so you can compare the options before you go.
Each animal encounter at Tiger Kingdom allows visitors to spend around 10 minutes inside the enclosure with a chosen big cat. For the safety of visitors, everyone is escorted by trained tiger keepers at all times. There are also fixed feeding times, so it is worth timing your visit around them for a livelier experience.
The rules inside the enclosures are strict. Before you enter, all personal belongings go into a locker outside, and shoes must be removed. Turn your camera flash off when taking photos or video. You can also buy a set of around 50 professional photographs, taken by an on-site photographer, for an additional 500 THB.
The on-site Bengal Restaurant serves an a la carte menu of Thai and Western dishes, and there is a gift shop for a memento of your encounter. Overall a visit is both an adventurous and an educational experience, and it is one of Phuket's most popular attractions for families and couples.
Is Tiger Kingdom Phuket Safe and Ethical?
On safety, every encounter is supervised. You are escorted by trained keepers the whole time you are inside an enclosure, your belongings are locked away, flash is not allowed, and you are shown how to approach a tiger calmly and from the side rather than head-on. Serious incidents are rare, and the keepers control each session closely. These are still large wild animals, so the single most important rule is to follow the keeper's instructions without exception.
The ethics of close-contact tiger tourism are genuinely debated, and it is fair to weigh both sides before you book. The park points to its trained-keeper supervision and the care its captive-bred tigers receive on site. Animal-welfare groups, on the other hand, raise concerns about keeping big cats for photo encounters and about how the animals are handled. We lay this out plainly so you can make your own call. If a close-contact wildlife experience does not sit right with you, Phuket has plenty of alternatives, from its beaches and viewpoints to the wider list of things to do in Phuket.
Best Time to Visit
Tigers are most active and comfortable when the day is cool, so the best times to visit are right after opening in the morning and in the last hour or two before closing. In the midday heat the cats tend to sleep, which makes for calmer photos but a less lively encounter. Weekdays are quieter than weekends and Thai public holidays. For the exact daily hours and the last-admission time, see the Tiger Kingdom timings page.

Phuket Travel FAQs
Where is Tiger Kingdom Phuket?
Tiger Kingdom Phuket is in the Kathu District of Phuket Island, at the base of Patong Hill. It is about 5 km from Patong Beach and roughly 10 km from Phuket Town, which is around a 15 to 20 minute drive from most Patong hotels. Taxis, ride-hailing cars and hotel transfers all reach it easily.
Can children visit Tiger Kingdom Phuket?
Yes, children can visit, but some tiger encounters are not open to children under 16 unless they are accompanied by an adult, and the largest adult tigers may have their own age rules. Check the conditions for each encounter size when you book, and keep younger children with the smaller, calmer cats.
Is Tiger Kingdom Phuket the same as Tiger Park Phuket?
Yes. Tiger Kingdom Phuket is often called Tiger Park Phuket online and by local taxi drivers. Both names refer to the same attraction in the Kathu District at the base of Patong Hill. There is no separate tiger park in Phuket, so you can use either name when asking for directions or booking a transfer.
What tigers are at Tiger Kingdom Phuket, and what sizes can I meet?
The park keeps tigers of different ages and sizes, described by the encounter size rather than by species. You can usually choose from the smallest cubs up to big and king-size adult tigers, and the price rises with the size of the cat. The current list of sizes and prices is on the entry fees page.
How much time do you get with a tiger?
Each encounter gives you around 10 minutes inside the enclosure with your chosen tiger, supervised by a trained keeper the whole time. You are shown how to sit or crouch beside the animal for photos. If you book more than one size, you spend roughly 10 minutes with each of them in turn.
Is Tiger Kingdom Phuket safe?
Every encounter is escorted by trained keepers, belongings are locked away, camera flash is not allowed, and visitors are shown how to approach the tigers calmly. Serious incidents are rare. That said, these are large wild animals, so the key to a safe visit is to follow the keepers' instructions closely at all times.
Is it ethical to visit Tiger Kingdom Phuket?
This is a personal choice and a genuinely debated one. The park highlights its trained-keeper supervision and the care its captive-bred tigers receive, while animal-welfare groups question close-contact tiger tourism and how the animals are handled. We recommend reading both perspectives and deciding what you are comfortable with. Phuket has many wildlife-free alternatives if you would prefer one.
Can you take photos with the tigers?
Yes. Photos are the main reason most people visit. You can use your own camera or phone with the flash switched off, and an on-site photographer offers a set of around 50 professional shots for about 500 THB. All personal belongings must be stored in a locker before you enter the enclosure, so hand your bag over first.
