Dharamshala Holiday Packages: rated 4.1/5 (based on 223 reviews) | Packages starting from ₹9,800/-
Dharamshala Holiday Packages
Dharamshala tour packages put the Dalai Lama's hill town and the whole Kangra Valley into a plan that runs from a quick 2-night break to a week across Himachal. In one trip you can walk McLeodganj, sit by Dal Lake, climb to Triund, and stand in the highest cricket stadium in the world. Every package on this page starts at Rs 7,999 per person and is customisable on dates, hotels and sightseeing.
Dharamshala sits at the foot of the Dhauladhar range in Kangra district, split between the lower town and upper McLeodganj, home of the Tibetan government-in-exile since 1959. It reads differently for different travellers. Trekkers come for Triund and Indrahar Pass, couples slow down at Naddi and Bhagsu, families do the monasteries and the HPCA stadium, and backpackers settle into the cafes of Dharamkot. Tell a local agent your dates and budget and the trip is built around them.

9 Best Tourist Places to Explore With a Dharamshala Package
Dharamshala hands you a lot in a small radius: lakes and waterfalls, 8th-century rock temples, a Tibetan spiritual core in McLeodganj, and viewpoints that open onto the Dhauladhar snow line. Most packages are built around the nine spots below, then extended to nearby Kangra Fort, Palampur and Bir. Kangra Fort, raised by the Katoch royal family in the 4th century BC, is the longest fort in the Himalayas and looks out over the Banganga and Manjhi rivers, with the Maharaja Sansar Chand Katoch Museum right beside it.
1. Dal Lake, Dharamshala
A small green lake about 8.4 km from town, ringed by deodar trees with a temple on its bank, open roughly 7 AM to 8 PM. Families and couples come to picnic and spot fish through the afternoon, and several trekking routes start from here. It is an easy first stop, close to Naddi View Point and the Tibetan monasteries. Reach it by cab, taxi or local bus.
2. Jwala Devi Temple
One of the most important Shakti temples in Himachal, about 35 km out, open around 5 AM to 10 PM in summer and 6 AM to 9 PM in winter. There is no idol here. A natural blue flame burns without fuel, one of the nine eternal flames tied to the goddess Durga, and pilgrims come through the year for the aarti. Legend holds that Goddess Sati's tongue fell at this spot. Reach it by cab, taxi or bus.
3. Bhagsu Falls
A short trek above McLeodganj brings you to Bhagsu Falls, about 6.5 km from town, dropping some 30 feet from the base of the Dhauladhar. The pool below is cold but people still swim, and there are tea and snack stalls along the walk. It pairs naturally with the Bhagsunath Temple next to it and the cafes of Dharamkot just above. Open roughly 5 AM to 9 PM.
4. Masroor Rock Cut Temple
For history travellers, the Masroor Rock Cut Temples sit about 40 km from Dharamshala, a drive of around 1.5 hours near the Nagrota-Surian road. Fifteen temples were carved from a single monolithic rock in the Indo-Aryan Nagara style, dated to the 8th century and dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu, Devi and Surya. The work was left incomplete and some has weathered, but the carving on the inner walls still repays the trip. It is open about 9 AM to 7 PM.
5. St John in the Wilderness Church
Built in 1852, this is one of the oldest churches in Himachal, about 5.6 km from town in neo-Gothic stone with Belgian stained-glass windows, open roughly 9 AM to 6 PM. Scenes from the film Mary Kom were shot here. Behind it lies a quiet cemetery, the resting place of Lord Elgin, a Viceroy of India. It sits in the woods between Dharamshala and McLeodganj and is easy to fold into a half-day.
6. HPCA Cricket Stadium
The HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala is the highest international cricket ground in the world, about 3.1 km from town at 1,457 metres, with a capacity near 23,000 and the Dhauladhar peaks as its backdrop. It has hosted IPL and international fixtures. Even on a non-match day the view across the snow line from the stands is worth the short stop, and it is a fixture on most Dharamshala-from-Delhi itineraries.
7. Namgyal Monastery
Namgyal Monastery is the largest Tibetan temple outside Tibet and the Dalai Lama's own, about 4.6 km from town inside the Tsuglagkhang complex in McLeodganj, open roughly 5 AM to 8:30 PM. Home to around 200 monks, it is a working centre for Buddhist study and ritual, with bright Tibetan-style architecture and prayer wheels along the path. It is the spiritual heart of upper Dharamshala.
8. Naddi View Point
Above McLeodganj in Naddi village, about 10.1 km from town, this viewpoint opens onto the full Dhauladhar range and is best in winter when the peaks are under snow. Come in the evening for the sunset and a tea-stall halt. It is also the trailhead for several treks, including Triund, Kareri Lake and Dharamkot, so it doubles as a launch point rather than just a photo stop. Reach it by car or a short walk.
9. Triund
The Triund trek is the classic Dharamshala walk, about 6.9 km from the McLeodganj-Dharamkot trailhead up to a ridge at 2,828 metres, open roughly 7 AM to 7 PM. The trail climbs steadily through rhododendron and oak forest and ends on a grassy shoulder facing the snow peaks. Many trekkers camp overnight for the sunrise. It is doable in a long day for anyone reasonably fit, and it is why a lot of first-timers pick Dharamshala at all.
Also worth adding: McLeodganj, Dharamkot and Kunal Pathri
Upper Dharamshala is really McLeodganj, and it deserves more than a drive-through. This is where the Dalai Lama lives, where the Tsuglagkhang complex and the Tibetan Museum sit, and where the market spills into cafes, momo stalls and Buddhist bookshops. A short climb above it, Dharamkot is the quiet backpacker and yoga hub with the best cafe views over the valley. On the far side, the Kunal Pathri Temple is a gentle 3 km walk from town through tea gardens to a rock-shrine of the goddess, an easy add for anyone who wants a temple stroll without a full trek.
These packages fold sightseeing, comfortable stays and airport or station transfers into one plan, so the days run without the usual booking headaches. Each itinerary is put together by local Dharamshala agents rather than a call centre, which is why the mix of monasteries, treks and viewpoints tends to fit the group it is built for.
Best Time to Visit Dharamshala
Dharamshala works all year, but the season changes what you get. March to mid-July gives you the warm, clear summer, and December to February brings the cold and the snow. Mid-July to September is monsoon, when the hills are at their greenest but the roads are least reliable, and September to November is the trekkers' window.
March to June (summer, peak season)
Summer is the easiest time to visit, roughly 22 to 35 degrees, with the valley in flower and pleasant days for walking. This is peak season, and it is when most people come for the Triund trek. Book early, because hotels and packages fill through May and June.
July to September (monsoon)
The rains bring lush green hills and thinner crowds, but frequent downpours block roads and cut off some sights, so it is not the season for adventure plans. If you travel now, lock the package in advance and keep the itinerary flexible.
October to February (winter, snow season)
Winter runs cold, about 4 to 7 degrees at the peak, and the higher points and Naddi see snow or snow-clad views. It is a fine time for a quiet trip and for photographs of the Dhauladhar under snow, though hotel prices climb because it is popular. Pack for genuine cold.
How to Reach Dharamshala
By air
The nearest airport is Kangra Airport at Gaggal, about 13 km from Dharamshala, with limited flights from Delhi. Most travellers instead fly into Chandigarh, roughly 250 km away, and continue by cab or an overnight Volvo bus. A package can include the airport transfer so you are met on arrival.
By road
Dharamshala is well connected by road. HRTC and private Volvo coaches run overnight from Delhi (about 470 to 500 km, 11 to 12 hours) and from Chandigarh, and it is a scenic self-drive if you prefer your own car. Within the hills, cabs and taxis handle local sightseeing. Booking a package with transport included takes the transfers off your plate.
By train
The nearest broad-gauge railhead is Pathankot, about 85 to 90 km away, from where a local bus or taxi runs up to Dharamshala. For a slower, scenic option, the Kangra Valley narrow-gauge line connects Pathankot to Kangra, close to town.
Things to Do in Dharamshala
Beyond the sightseeing, Dharamshala fills several days with walks, adventure and Tibetan culture.
- Trek the Dhauladhar. Triund is the popular overnighter, with Kareri Lake, Indrahar Pass and Bhagsu Nag as tougher and longer alternatives for seasoned trekkers.
- Camp at Triund. Pitch a tent on the Triund ridge under the Dhauladhar and wake to the sunrise on the snow peaks; it is the most-booked add-on on the trekking packages.
- Fly at Bir Billing. Bir Billing, about 70 km out, is one of the top paragliding sites in the world; the Dharamshala season for shorter local flights around Indru Nag runs mainly July and August.
- Follow the Tibetan trail. Sit in on a teaching or a meditation session at the Tsuglagkhang complex and Tushita, and walk the kora path around the Dalai Lama's temple.
- Take a day trip. Kangra Fort, Palampur's tea gardens, Khajjiar and the Masroor temples are the easy day trips that pad out a longer stay.

How to Choose the Right Dharamshala Package
By who you are travelling with. Couples do best on a Dharamshala honeymoon package built around Naddi and Bhagsu, while parents with kids want a Dharamshala family package that keeps the pace gentle around the monasteries and the stadium.
By budget. Value trips start from Rs 7,999 on a 3-star budget plan; for premium hotels and private experiences, ask for a luxury quote and the agent bands it to your dates.
By how long you have. Two to three days covers Dharamshala and McLeodganj comfortably. Add a night for Triund or Bir Billing, and go 5N/6D if you want to fold in Dalhousie and Khajjiar on a Dharamshala McLeodganj Khajjiar Dalhousie tour.
By season. Come Mar to Jun and Dec to Feb for clear days or snow, Sep to Nov for trekking. For a full month-by-month breakdown, see the Dharamshala travel guide.
Why Book Your Dharamshala Trip With TravelTriangle
Every Dharamshala package is fully customisable, so you change the hotels, the number of nights and the sightseeing until the trip fits. You deal only with the top 10 percent of reviewed local agents, chosen through a 23-step assessment, and payment is released to them only after your booking vouchers come through. On-trip support runs 24x7, and the reviews on this page are from real travellers who booked and went, not stock testimonials.
What to Pack and Know Before You Go
Weather here can swing inside a fortnight, so check the forecast about two weeks out and pack for the range. Carry at least one warm layer whatever the month, and heavy woollens, a jacket and waterproof shoes for a winter or snow trip. Keep your printed itinerary and any confirmation vouchers handy, since hotels and cab drivers may ask. Wear comfortable shoes for the walking, carry cash for smaller stalls and temple counters where cards are patchy, and stick to bottled or filtered water. Book stays in advance in peak months, when rooms go fast.
What to Eat in Dharamshala
McLeodganj is the best Tibetan food in the region. Work through momos, thukpa, thenthuk and bok choy soup, and finish with a slice of the local Bhagsu cake. There are cafes for every budget above McLeodganj and around Dharamkot. For a fuller food and stay guide, see the Dharamshala travel guide.

FAQs About Dharamshala Tour Packages
How much does a Dharamshala tour package cost?
A Dharamshala package starts at about Rs 7,999 per person for a short budget trip, land only. A typical mid-range 3N/4D trip for two runs roughly Rs 16,000 to Rs 40,000 depending on hotel category, season and whether you add Dalhousie, Khajjiar or a Triund trek. Flights or train fare are usually extra, and every quote is customisable.
What is the difference between Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj?
They are two parts of the same hill town. Lower Dharamshala is the older market and administrative town near the HPCA stadium and Kotwali Bazaar. McLeod Ganj sits about 9 km uphill and is the Tibetan quarter, home to the Dalai Lama, the Tsuglagkhang complex and the cafes and monasteries most travellers picture. Almost every package covers both, with stays usually in or near McLeod Ganj.
Is Dharamshala safe, including for solo female travellers?
Dharamshala is one of the safer hill destinations in India and is popular with solo and female travellers, helped by the steady flow of Tibetan-quarter and backpacker visitors around McLeod Ganj. Use normal caution after dark on quiet trails, keep to daytime drives on hill roads, and trek with a guide or group on longer routes like Triund and Indrahar Pass. Booking through a verified agent keeps stays and transport vetted.
Can I customise my Dharamshala package?
Yes. Every package here is a starting point, not a fixed set. You can change the hotels, the number of nights, the sightseeing and the departure city, add a Triund trek or a Dalhousie extension, and the local agent rebuilds the quote around your choices. That is the main reason to book a package rather than piece the trip together yourself.
Can I combine Dharamshala with other Himachal destinations?
Yes, and it is a common plan. The easy pairing is Dharamshala with Dalhousie and Khajjiar on a 5N/6D loop, and you can also link it with Manali, Amritsar or Bir Billing. If you want a ready itinerary, look at the Dharamshala McLeodganj Khajjiar Dalhousie tour, or ask an agent to stitch a custom route across the state.
Can I visit Dharamshala in winter, and is there snowfall?
Yes. Winter, from December to February, is one of the best times for a quiet trip, with temperatures around 4 to 7 degrees. Upper points like Naddi, Triund and Dharamkot see snow or snow-clad Dhauladhar views, though heavy snowfall in the town itself is not guaranteed every year. Pack heavy woollens and waterproof shoes, and expect higher hotel prices in this peak stretch.
What is the best time to visit Dharamshala?
For snow, bonfire evenings and Dhauladhar views, October to March is the window. For sightseeing and clear scenic days, April to June is ideal. September to November suits trekkers, when the monsoon has retreated and the weather is pleasant by day and cool at night.
Are these packages ideal for all kinds of travellers?
Yes. Dharamshala tour packages are booked by friends, families and honeymooners alike, and they can be tuned to each. Families lean on the monasteries and the stadium, couples on Naddi and Bhagsu, and friends on the treks and the McLeod Ganj cafes.
How many days are sufficient for a tour to Dharamshala?
Two to three days is enough for Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj at a comfortable pace. Add a day for the Triund trek or Bir Billing, and plan five to six days if you want to combine it with Dalhousie and Khajjiar.
Is there any airport near Dharamshala?
The nearest airport is Kangra Airport at Gaggal, about 13 km from Dharamshala, with limited flights from Delhi. Most travellers fly into Chandigarh, roughly 250 km away, and continue by cab or overnight bus.
