Sri Lanka Trip from India : Overview
TravelTriangle lists 203 Sri Lanka tour packages from India, each built and run by a verified local agent who works the island every season. Most Indian travellers book 4 to 7 nights. The classic route lands in Colombo, climbs Sigiriya Rock, spends a night in Kandy for the Temple of the Tooth, rides into the tea country at Nuwara Eliya and ends on the beach at Bentota. Land packages start at Rs 16,600 per person on twin sharing for 3N/4D, and a 5N/6D trip with 3-star hotels, breakfast, a private car and sightseeing usually costs Rs 35,000 to Rs 58,000. Packages with return flights from India start at Rs 37,400. Indian passport holders need a free online ETA, and the flight from Chennai to Colombo takes about 1 hour 20 minutes.
Every itinerary on this page can be changed. Swap a hotel, add a Yala safari or the Kandy to Ella train, or stretch the trip into the Maldives. Shopping for a particular trip? Start with Sri Lanka honeymoon packages, family packages, budget trips or luxury holidays. Flying from home? Compare packages from Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi.

Sri Lanka Tour Package Price from India (2026)
A Sri Lanka tour package costs Rs 16,600 to Rs 85,000 per person for 3 to 7 nights, before flights. The table below is built from the prices of all 203 packages listed on this page in October 2026, so it shows what travellers actually pay, not just the cheapest headline fare.
| Duration | Typical route | Starts from | Most travellers pay | With flights from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2N/3D | Colombo and Bentota, or Colombo and Kandy | Rs 23,999 | Rs 25,000 to Rs 33,000 | Rs 37,400 |
| 3N/4D | Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Bentota | Rs 16,600 | Rs 19,000 to Rs 38,000 | Rs 38,800 |
| 4N/5D | Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Bentota, Colombo | Rs 17,144 | Rs 26,500 to Rs 48,500 | Rs 51,199 |
| 5N/6D | Sigiriya, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Bentota | Rs 20,000 | Rs 35,400 to Rs 58,000 | Rs 68,499 |
| 6N/7D | Adds the Ella train or a Yala safari | Rs 24,499 | Rs 44,800 to Rs 69,600 | On request |
| 7N/8D | Cultural Triangle, hills and south coast | Rs 35,500 | Rs 60,100 to Rs 85,500 | Rs 58,999 |
| 8N/9D and longer | Full island circuit incl. Trincomalee or Galle | Rs 57,800 | Rs 57,800 to Rs 95,000 | Rs 70,399 (9N/10D) |
Prices per person on twin sharing, land only unless a flights column applies. December, January and Indian school holidays run higher.
Four things move the price more than anything else. Hotel class is the biggest, since a 4N/5D with 4-star hotels starts near Rs 22,000 against Rs 17,144 for 3-star. Season comes next, with Christmas and New Year rates well above June. Flights add Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000 per person depending on your city. Add-ons like a Yala jeep safari, Mirissa whale watching or a reserved seat on the Ella train are priced separately, so ask your agent to quote them inside the package rather than paying on the spot. If you are working to a tight number, the Sri Lanka on a budget guide breaks a trip down rupee by rupee.

How Many Days Are Enough for Sri Lanka?
Five to six nights is enough for a first Sri Lanka trip. That covers Sigiriya, Kandy, the Nuwara Eliya tea country and one beach without spending a whole day in the car. Sri Lanka looks small on the map, but hill roads are slow. Kandy to Nuwara Eliya is only 77 km and still takes about 3 hours.
| Nights | What you can cover | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 3 to 4 | Colombo, Kandy and Bentota, or Kandy and Nuwara Eliya | Long weekends, first look |
| 5 to 6 | Sigiriya and Dambulla, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Bentota | Most first-time visitors |
| 7 to 8 | Adds the Kandy to Ella train, Yala safari and Mirissa | Honeymooners, slower pace |
| 9 to 12 | Full circuit incl. Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee, Galle Fort | Second trips, culture lovers |
Sample 6-day Sri Lanka itinerary
This is the route most of our 5N/6D packages follow. Agents adjust the order around your flight times.
| Day | Plan | Night stay |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Land in Colombo, drive 4 hours to Sigiriya via the Dambulla cave temple | Sigiriya |
| Day 2 | Climb Sigiriya Rock at 7 am before the heat, then drive to Kandy for the evening Temple of the Tooth ceremony and a Kandyan dance show | Kandy |
| Day 3 | Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, a tea factory on the way up, Gregory Lake in Nuwara Eliya | Nuwara Eliya |
| Day 4 | Drive down to the coast at Bentota, Madu River boat safari in the afternoon | Bentota |
| Day 5 | Beach day, turtle hatchery at Kosgoda, optional Galle Fort trip | Bentota |
| Day 6 | Colombo city tour, Galle Face Green, airport drop | Departure |
Want this exact plan ready to book? See the 6-day Sri Lanka tour itinerary, or the shorter 5 days tour package. On an 8-day trip, swap Day 4 for the Nanu Oya to Ella train, spend a night in Ella for Nine Arch Bridge and Little Adam's Peak, then do a Yala safari before the beach.
Places and Sightseeing Covered in Sri Lanka Tour Packages
Every sightseeing tour package here is built from the stops below. Use the table to decide what to add, and how many nights each stop really needs.
| Place or experience | Why travellers add it | Allow | Best months |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sigiriya Rock and Dambulla | Fifth-century rock fortress and Sri Lanka's largest cave temple, both UNESCO sites 20 km apart | 1 night | Dec to Apr, Jun to Sep |
| Kandy | Temple of the Tooth, Peradeniya gardens, Kandyan dance show | 1 to 2 nights | Year round, Esala Perahera Jul or Aug |
| Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage | Watch rescued elephants walk to the river at bath time, on the Colombo to Kandy road | Half day | Year round |
| Nuwara Eliya | Tea estates, factory tours, cool 15C evenings | 1 night | Jan to Apr |
| Kandy to Ella train | Seven hours of tea-country views, the trip most travellers remember | 1 day + 1 night in Ella | Jan to Apr |
| Ella | Nine Arch Bridge, Little Adam's Peak, Ravana Falls | 1 night | Jan to Apr |
| Yala National Park | One of the world's highest leopard densities, plus elephants and sloth bears | 1 night | Feb to Jul (park shuts for part of Sep or Oct) |
| Bentota | Madu River safari, Kosgoda turtle hatchery, water sports | 2 nights | Nov to Apr |
| Mirissa and Galle | Blue whale watching boats, Galle Fort ramparts, Unawatuna beach | 1 to 2 nights | Dec to Apr |
| Trincomalee and Pasikuda | Calm east-coast beaches, Koneswaram Temple, Pigeon Island snorkelling | 2 nights | May to Sep |
| Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura | Ancient royal capitals, cycle the ruins | 1 night | Dec to Sep |
| Ramayana trail | Seetha Amman Temple near Nuwara Eliya, Divurumpola, Ravana Falls | Fits into 5 nights or more | Year round |
Bentota sits about 65 km south of Colombo, under 2 hours by road. Negombo, 37 km north and 15 minutes from the airport, makes an easy first or last night. Kandy's Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic opens from early morning and runs puja ceremonies at dawn, midday and evening. Cover your shoulders and knees and leave your shoes at the gate. Yala is known for one of the highest leopard densities anywhere, which is why most wildlife packages book two jeep drives, one at 6 am and one at 2.30 pm. At Pinnawala, the elephants walk from the orphanage down to the Maha Oya river for their bath, so time the visit around bath hours if you are travelling with children.

Sri Lanka Visa (ETA) and Travel Requirements for Indians
Indians need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), Sri Lanka's online tourist visa, approved before you fly. There is no paper visa or embassy visit. Sri Lanka waived the ETA fee for Indian passport holders from 25 May 2026, so the 30-day tourist ETA now costs nothing. Apply only on the official site, eta.gov.lk. Lookalike agent sites still charge a service fee.
| Requirement | Details for Indian travellers |
|---|---|
| ETA | Free tourist ETA, 30 days, double entry, apply online before departure |
| Passport | Valid at least 6 months from arrival |
| At immigration | Return ticket, hotel bookings (your package vouchers) and the arrival card |
| Money | LKR is the currency. Exchange at Colombo airport or carry a forex card. INR is hard to change outside Colombo |
| SIM and data | Dialog or Mobitel tourist SIM at the airport arrivals hall |
| Ferry from India | A seasonal passenger ferry (Subham's Sivagangai) sails Nagapattinam to Kankesanthurai (Jaffna) several days a week outside the northeast monsoon, but it only reaches the far north. Every package on this page flies into Colombo |
Your agent sends the ETA steps with your booking confirmation. For the full walkthrough, read our Sri Lanka visa for Indians guide.

| May to September | Wet (southwest monsoon) | Dry, calm sea | East-coast beach packages, Yala, Cultural Triangle |
| October to November | Showers island-wide | Showers | Lowest prices, keep the plan flexible |
Kandy's Esala Perahera procession falls in July or August, when hotels there fill early. Month-by-month detail is on our best time to visit Sri Lanka page.

Pack for two climates. The coast sits at 30C while Nuwara Eliya drops to 12C at night.
•Light cottons for the coast, plus a fleece or light jacket for Nuwara Eliya and Ella
•Clothes that cover shoulders and knees for the Temple of the Tooth and Dambulla, and a scarf
•Walking shoes for Sigiriya's 1,200 steps, and flip-flops for the beach
•Sunscreen, insect repellent and a small umbrella for afternoon showers
•Printed ETA approval, passport copies and some LKR cash for tuk-tuks and temple stalls

Few countries pack as many UNESCO World Heritage Sites into so small an area. In one week you can climb a fifth-century rock fortress, ride a train through tea estates and end on a beach where turtles nest. Pick a package above, share your dates and city, and up to three verified agents will send you a Sri Lanka quote you can change until it fits. FAQs About Sri Lanka Tour Packages
How much does a Sri Lanka tour package cost from India?
Sri Lanka tour packages start at Rs 16,600 per person for 3N/4D on twin sharing, without flights. Most 5N/6D trips with 3-star hotels, breakfast, a private car and sightseeing cost Rs 35,000 to Rs 58,000 per person, and 7N/8D trips cost Rs 60,000 to Rs 85,000. Packages with return flights from India start at Rs 37,400. Hotel class, season and add-ons like a Yala safari change the final quote.
How much does a 7-day Sri Lanka tour cost?
A 6N/7D Sri Lanka package costs Rs 44,800 to Rs 69,600 per person on most of our listings, with the cheapest starting at Rs 24,499. That usually covers Sigiriya, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, a beach and either the Ella train or a Yala safari. Add Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000 per person for return flights, depending on your departure city.
Do Indians need a visa for Sri Lanka? Is the ETA free?
Yes, but only the online Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), Sri Lanka's tourist visa, which must be approved before you fly. Sri Lanka waived the ETA fee for Indian passport holders from 25 May 2026, so the 30-day double-entry tourist ETA is free. Apply only on eta.gov.lk, keep your passport valid for 6 months, and carry your return ticket and hotel vouchers.
Do Indians require a passport for Sri Lanka?
Yes. Indian citizens need a passport valid for at least 6 months from the arrival date, plus an approved ETA. Aadhaar or voter ID is not accepted for entry to Sri Lanka. Your package agent can help you file the ETA once your passport details are confirmed.
How many days are enough for Sri Lanka?
Five to six nights is right for a first trip. It covers Sigiriya, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and a Bentota beach stay at a comfortable pace. With 7 to 8 nights you can add the Kandy to Ella train, a Yala leopard safari and Mirissa. Three or four nights works for a short Colombo, Kandy and beach break.
What can you see in Sri Lanka in 3 days?
In 3 days you can see Colombo, Kandy with the Temple of the Tooth and Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage on the way, and finish with a night on Bentota beach. If you prefer hills to beach, do Kandy and Nuwara Eliya's tea estates instead. Sigiriya and Ella need more time, so save them for a 5-night trip.
Are flights included in Sri Lanka tour packages?
Most packages on this page are land-only, so flights are booked separately or added by your agent. Packages marked 'with airfare' include return flights from India and start at Rs 37,400 for 2N/3D and Rs 51,199 for 4N/5D. Ask for a with-flights quote from your city, as Chennai and Bangalore fares are usually the lowest.
What is included in a Sri Lanka tour package?
A standard package includes hotel stays on twin sharing, daily breakfast, a private air-conditioned car with a chauffeur-guide, airport transfers and the sightseeing in the itinerary. Many packages add dinner. Flights, entry tickets, lunches, tips and insurance are usually extra unless listed. Every inclusion can be changed before you book.
What is the best time to visit Sri Lanka?
December to April is the best time for the west coast, south coast and hill country, which covers most classic packages. May to September is best for the east coast, including Trincomalee, Pasikuda and Arugam Bay, when the southwest monsoon soaks the west. October and November bring showers island-wide but the lowest prices.
Is Sri Lanka expensive for Indian tourists?
No. Sri Lanka is one of the most affordable international trips from India. A 5N/6D land package averages around Rs 46,750 per person on our listings, and flights from Chennai or Bangalore are short and cheap. Costs rise in December and January, and with 5-star hotels or a Maldives extension.
Is Sri Lanka cheaper than the Maldives? Can I combine both?
Sri Lanka is far cheaper. A 5N/6D Sri Lanka trip costs roughly what two or three nights in a Maldives water villa do. Many couples combine both, spending 4 to 5 nights in Sri Lanka's hills and beaches and then flying 1 hour 30 minutes to Male. Our Sri Lanka and Maldives combo packages start at Rs 89,299 per person for 7N/8D.
Can I customise these Sri Lanka tour packages?
Yes, every package can be changed. Tell the agent which hotels, cities, activities and number of nights you want, and they rework the itinerary and price. Up to three verified agents can quote on the same trip, so you can compare plans before paying.
Can I add the Kandy to Ella train or a Yala safari to my package?
Yes. Both are the most requested add-ons. The Kandy to Ella train takes about 7 hours through tea country and needs a night in Ella, so it suits 6 nights or more. A Yala jeep safari needs a night near the park at Tissamaharama. Ask your agent to reserve train seats when you confirm, since they sell out in peak season.
Is vegetarian food easily available in Sri Lanka?
Yes. Sri Lankan rice and curry has many vegetable dishes like dhal, jackfruit (polos) curry and pol sambol. Colombo and Kandy have several Indian restaurants, including the pure-vegetarian Shanmugas in Colombo. In smaller towns, ask your agent to brief hotels in advance or pre-book Indian meals, which most packages can arrange.
Is Sri Lanka safe for Indian tourists?
Yes, Sri Lanka is safe for Indian tourists, and Indians are among its largest visitor groups. Use common sense. Agree tuk-tuk fares before you ride or use the PickMe app, avoid poorly lit areas late at night, ignore strangers selling 'deals' and keep valuables in the hotel safe. Your agent is reachable 24x7 through the trip.
What are the best Sri Lanka tour packages offered by TravelTriangle?
Below listed are some of the best Sri Lanka tour packages offered by us:
What should I wear in Sri Lanka?
Light cotton clothes work almost everywhere, with a warm layer for Nuwara Eliya and Ella. At temples, including the Temple of the Tooth and Dambulla, cover your shoulders and knees and remove shoes and hats. Swimwear is fine on the beach but not in towns. Topless sunbathing is not allowed. Cover any Buddha tattoos and never pose for photos with your back to a Buddha statue, as both can lead to denied entry or deportation.
Do hotels in Sri Lanka ask for marriage proof at check-in?
No. Hotels in Sri Lanka do not ask couples for marriage certificates. A valid passport for each guest is all you need at check-in.
Can I book a Sri Lanka package with flights from my city?
Yes. We have city packages from Chennai, Bangalore, Kochi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Ahmedabad, and any package on this page can be quoted with flights from your city. Chennai, Bangalore and Kochi have the shortest non-stop flights to Colombo, under 2 hours.
Is it possible to customize these Sri Lanka tour packages?
